Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi will officially open the 114th Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS) in Harare on Tuesday, August 27.
The week-long event kicked off on Monday, with hundreds of people, including children, visiting the exhibition stands and participating in the various activities on offer.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade acting chief director for protocol and conference services Livit Mugejo said:

The Zimbabwe Agricultural Show will be officially opened by His Excellency, President Filipe Nyusi, of Mozambique.
President Nyusi is expected in the country to officially open the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show on August 27, 2024.
It is not a State visit, but a working visit. He is coming solely for the official opening of the 114th edition of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show.

Foreign exhibitors from India, South Africa, Zambia, Pakistan, Eswatini, Japan, Russia, Mozambique, China, Malawi and Tanzania are participating in the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS).
As of last week, the event has attracted 430 exhibitors, compared to 410 exhibitors at the previous year’s show.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/president-nyusi-officially-opens-agric-show-today/">The Herald</a>, Elizabeth Nkhwazi, the managing director of a Malawian company, expressed her anticipation of securing more deals for the goods her company supplies at the event. She said:

We chose to come to exhibit in Zimbabwe because we are in agribusiness and this is an agriculture show and it’s within our region, the SADC region.
We have exhibited at ZAS before and we have made a few deals and we are anticipating that this year we will make more deals for the goods that we supply.
We have the Kilombero rice, corn and nuts. We are also dealing in beans. We have honey. As you can see we have various products made in Malawi, produced in Malawi, and so we are trying to
find more markets, we are trying to expand our market reach.
This is actually our third year. So, it must be a very good time. Yes, we have had and seen some benefits coming, that is why we keep on attending.

The show is running under the theme: “Cultivating prosperity. Growing business. Innovating for change. Nurturing our future.”

The 2023 Zimbabwe Agricultural Show (ZAS) started on Monday, 28 August, with a high schools rugby tournament among some of the major highlights of the annual event.
The show is running from Monday to Saturday, with more than 250 000 people expected to visit the Exhibition Park.
The 113th show is running under the theme: “Sustained growth. Adaptation. Productivity and Linkages.”
More than 400 exhibitors including foreign companies from the Democratic Republic of Congo, European Union, China, South Africa and Malawi have confirmed their participation.
ZAS chief executive Andrew Matibiri told <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/zim-agricultural-show-starts/">The Herald</a> that safety measures have been put in place. He said:

Great emphasis has been put on the safety and security of both exhibitors and visitors to the extent that wider and more modern CCTV cameras have been installed in addition to the drones, installation of gate turnstiles and ticketing systems to ensure improved convenience.

Last year, a 12-year-old minor was electrocuted after he touched the metal body of an electric swing at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show Luna Park.
The minor was later identified as Wayne Mugaure, a Grade pupil at Alfred Beit School in Harare.
In 2011, three-year-old Given Flint Matapure went missing at the then Harare Agricultural Show.
His skeletal remains were found days later by a worker who was clearing a piece of land within Exhibition Park.
Meanwhile, the official opening of the 2023 Zimbabwe Agricultural Show is planned for Friday 1 September.
