The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a manhunt for a security guard who robbed the bank he was assigned to guard in Sanyati on Friday.
According to the police, the suspect, identified as Samson Mahohoma (46), attacked two bank tellers and three other bank officials on Friday afternoon, making off with US$134,000 and ZAR 32,800 in cash. The ZRP stated:

The ZRP is appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of Samson Mahohoma (46), who is wanted in connection with a robbery that occurred at a bank in Sanyati on 14/09/24 at approximately 1:30 PM. The suspect, while on duty, assaulted two bank tellers and three other officials before stealing US$134,000 and ZAR 32,800 in cash. Anyone with information is urged to report to the nearest police station.
</blockquote>
In a separate case, the ZRP is also seeking information that may lead to the arrest of Michael Tinotenda Tichaona Mungure, who is wanted in connection with a fraud case involving RTGS$3,754,535.82.
The ZRP said that Mungure, a former loans officer at a local bank, is alleged to have withdrawn the cash after two clients submitted loan applications for agricultural purposes.

The police are looking for him. Another person, Michael Tinotenda Tichaona Mungure, is wanted for fraud involving RTGS$3,754,535.82. Mungure was a loans officer who allegedly withdrew money after two clients applied for agricultural loans. Police are asking for information on both suspects to catch them.

On Duty Security Guard Robs Bank Of US$134 000, ZAR33 000

A security guard robbed a ZB Bank branch in Kadoma that he was guarding, getting away with  US $134,000.
The robbery took place on Saturday 14 September in the afternoon as the bank’s employees counted cash in preparation of closing for the day.
The guard, Samson Mahohoma, who was guarding the bank entered the room where employees were counting the cash and order them to hand it over. He also took their mobile phones and keys, and locked everyone in before fleeing with the cash.
Said a brief by ZRP Sanyati :

On 14 September 2024 around 1330 hrs, complainant, who is the Branch Manager at ZB Bank Sanyati closed the bank and instructed all the workers to enter into a cash room in order to count money.
While they were inside, the accused person who is a security guard at the bank entered the room armed with his rifle and ordered everyone to lie down. Accused person then placed all the money in a sack and ordered all workers to surrender their cellphones and keys. He then left the room and locked the doors and disappeared with the loot.
The total value stolen is US$134 000 and R33 800 and nothing was recovered.

There has been a spat of high value robberies in Zimbabwe in recent years, most of them planned by security company insiders.
Recently, a Fawcett Security guard worked with a team to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/09/05/fawcetts-security-robbed-of-over-us111000-and-r1-28-million/">rob the company of $200,000</a> it was keeping safe on behalf of clients. The robberies were <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2024/09/13/insider-job-as-chipinge-fawcett-200k-robbers-arrested/">arrested just a week later</a>.
In December 2022, a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2022/12/02/zb-bank-lone-armed-robber-new-details-emerge/">robber targeted and got away with $12,000</a> at a ZB Bank branch in Victoria Falls after pretending to apply for a loan as the bank was about to close
In January 2021, US$2.7 millions was stolen from a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2021/01/07/the-armed-robbers-where-given-a-lift-by-the-people-ferrying-the-cash-zrp-on-the-us2-5-million-heist/">ZB bank crew which was transporting cash from Harare to Chinhoyi</a>.

A guard stole $134,000 from a bank in Kadoma while workers were counting money. He took their phones and keys, then locked them in the room before running away. Other robberies have happened in Zimbabwe, some planned by security company workers. A guard and others stole $200,000 from one company, but were caught later. In another case, a robber took $12,000 from a bank in Victoria Falls. A crew transporting money also lost $2.7 million in a robbery. Security is important to prevent such crimes.

Security Guard Robs Bank Of $134,000

Three armed robbers who were convicted on Friday of robbing ZB Bank of US$2.7 million in 2021 have been jailed for 10 years each, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200017572/bank-robbers-jailed-10-years">NewsDay</a>.
Shadreck Njowa, Tendai Zuze and Neverson Mwamuka were sentenced by Harare regional magistrate Clever Tsikwa on Wednesday, 04 October 2023.
However, they will serve eight years each after the magistrate suspended two years on condition of good behaviour.
Njowa, the former internal security manager for cash-in-transit, was the mastermind of the robbery.
The State, represented by Loveit Muringwa, had urged the court to impose a harsher sentence for the convicted trio.
The State will also confiscate US$20 500 from Njowa, US$35 032 and ZWL$360 000 from Zuze and US$74 800 and ZWL$675 000 from Mwamuka.
The convicts’ alleged four accomplices, Trymore Chapfikwa, Tozivepi Chirara, Dennis Madondo and Tatenda Gadzikwa, were acquitted.
The four successfully filed an application for disposal and the State is supposed to reimburse them a sum of US$234 000.
This was despite protests by the State which felt that the four had not submitted evidence to show that the money belonged to them.
Meanwhile, in sentencing Njowa, Zuze and Mwamuka, Tsikwa said the trio deserved a harsh sentence. He ruled:

A sentence of around 10 years would be appropriate and two years suspended on condition that they do not commit the same offence in a period of five years.

The convicts’ five vehicles were forfeited to the State.

US$2.7 Million ZB Bank Robbers Jailed 10 Years Each

A lone suspected armed robber who pounced on the ZB Bank branch in Victoria Falls on Wednesday afternoon entered the banking hall a few minutes before closing time.
The suspect was wearing a hat and mask and allegedly waited for other clients to leave before pointing a gun at staff.
He pretended to be seeking to apply for a loan from the bank.
The acting spokesperson for the ZRP in Matabeleland North Province, Assistant Inspector Christopher Mahohoma confirmed the armed robbery. He said:

On 30 November 2022 at 1630 hours, a report of armed robbery was received at ZRP Victoria Falls to the effect that an unknown male adult who was armed with a pistol robbed ZB Bank, Victoria Falls branch of US$12 000.
</blockquote>
Police said the suspect was dressed in a black and white T-shirt, grey trousers, a black hat, and a black mask.
He entered the banking hall disguised as a genuine customer and approached Caroline Dube, a bank teller, and enquired about the requirements for one to apply for a loan. Said Asst Insp Mahohoma:

The accused person who was the last customer in the bank moved towards the exit door around 15:55 hours and Mr Lasho Ndlovu, a security guard from Peace Security Company was following behind him so that he could close the door after his exit since the bank was closing for the day.
Suddenly, the accused person turned back and pointed a firearm at Mr Ndlovu before ordering everyone to remain still.

The suspect allegedly ordered two bank tellers Scholastic Mazinyani and Siphiweyinkosi Mpofu to surrender all the cash in their tills.
The two surrendered the cash and the accused person packed it in a satchel.
He then demanded keys to the back exit door from the branch supervisor Tinashe Shayamano.
The suspect then walked out of the bank through the exit door and walked westwards and started to run.

ZB Bank Lone Armed Robber... New Details Emerge

Police said that the lone armed robber who pounced on a ZB Bank branch in Victoria Falls late on Wednesday afternoon fled the scene through the back exit.
The suspect had posed as a genuine customer and inquired about the requirements to apply for a bank loan from bank staff.
In a statement, ZRP said that as the bank was about to close for the day, the suspect remained behind while other customers were leaving.
He made sure that all the other customers had left before brandishing an unknown pistol and robbing the bank of US$12 000. Police said:

The ZRP confirms that a robbery case occurred at ZB Bank, Victoria Falls, on 30/11/22 at around 1555 hours where an unknown suspect, armed with an unidentified pistol, posed as a genuine customer who wanted to enquire on the requirements to apply for a bank loan.
As the bank was about to close for the day, the suspect remained behind while other customers were leaving. After all the other customers had left, he produced a pistol and ordered the bank tellers to surrender cash in their tills.
The suspect stole US$12 000 before fleeing through the back exit door. Investigations are underway to account for the suspect.

In January last year, a cash-in-transit ZB Bank vehicle was robbed of US$2.7 million and $43 000 at Gwebi River Bridge along the Harare-Chirundu Road.
The robbery was believed to have been an inside job where three security personnel in the vehicle allegedly connived with robbers.

Victoria Falls ZB Bank Robber Left Through Back Exit - Police

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has said a ZB bank branch in Victoria Falls was on Wednesday robbed of US$12 000, and not US$100 000 as has been claimed.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the robbery saying the details about the incident are still sketchy as police are conducting investigations. He said:

I can confirm that an armed robber raided ZB bank yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon and got away with US$12 000.
This is contrary to the social media reports that are saying US$100 000 which is not true.
I do not have much detail on the matter but investigations are underway.

Reports indicate that the suspect remained in the bank purportedly filling in bank slips before producing a gun and robbing the bank after other customers had left.

Police Say US$12 000 Was Stolen From Bank, Not US$100 000

An armed robber raided a ZB Bank Victoria Falls branch on Wednesday afternoon and got away with an undisclosed amount of money believed to be more than US$100 000.
The armed robber walked into the banking hall pretending to be a client and was wearing a wool hat and a face mask, the Chronicle reported.
Unsuspecting bank staff watched as the suspect pretended to be completing bank slips until other clients left and that is when he pulled out a gun.
The suspect then proceeded to the counter and threatened bank tellers with the gun, ordering everyone, to lie down and they complied.
It is said that the suspect demanded cash which he loaded into a satchel that he was carrying and walked out of the banking hall. A source told the Chronicle:

The suspect entered the banking hall as a client and was still inside when the bank closed. He threatened the security guard who gave in and he then went to the tills where pointed the gun and demanded cash which he loaded into a satchel and walked out through the back door.

The suspect reportedly walked away after leaving the bank premises and started running and people outside did not suspect anything until staff from the bank came out and reported that they had been robbed.

Gunman Raids Victoria Falls Bank, Gets Away With More Than US$100 000

A suspect in last week’s <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/updated-cash-in-transit-robbers-get-away-with-usd2-5m/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">US$2.7 million ZB Bank cash-in-transit robbery</a> died in Zaka on Thursday in a shoot-out with detectives, while three others appeared in court on Friday.
Andrew Chigara was one of the suspects on the run but died at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ndanga_Hospital" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ndanga District Hospital</a> on Thursday evening from gunshot wounds sustained in the shoot-out at Ndanga Business Centre while he was resisting arrest.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Paul_Nyathi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Paul Nyathi</a> yesterday said detectives tracked Chigara to Ndanga Business Centre in Zaka on Thursday. Nyathi said:
<blockquote>Upon seeing the detectives at the business centre, the suspect tried to run away resulting in a shoot-out with police. Chigara sustained serious injuries and was taken to Ndanga Hospital where he passed on.</blockquote>
So far, police have arrested 11 out of 15 suspects in the staged robbery and recovered US$690 000 while three more suspects, including the alleged mastermind, are still being sought.
The heist happened at Gwebi Bridge lay-bye on Wednesday 6 January 2021 at 1400 hrs.
