The Anti-Corruption Trust of Southern Africa (ACT-SA) has condemned the illegal alluvial gold riverbed mining activities taking place at MaDollar dam in the Sessombi area of Zhombe, Kwekwe, disguised as dam scooping, allegedly protected by law enforcement and local authorities.
In a statement, the ACT-SA chairperson Alouis Munyaradzi Chaumba said his organisation and its officials have been threatened by an organised crime syndicate involved in the activities for exposing their illegal mining activities. <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/outrage-over-illegal-alluvial-gold-mining-syndicate-polluting-dams-chinese-chief-and-politicians-fingered-in-unholy-confluence-of-corruption/">Said Chaumba</a>:
<blockquote>
This unholy confluence of corruption, patronage, and state-sanctioned impunity has effectively rendered the illegal mining activities immune to any form of legal consequence, thus perpetuating a cycle of exploitation and injustice that shows no signs of abating.
In an audacious display of audacity and intimidation, Chief Gwesela, a member of the MaDollar dam syndicate and a traditional leader in the region, issued ominous threats against the ACT-SA regional director through WhatsApp.
Despite the gravity of these threats, the Zimbabwe Republic Police, operating out of the Kwekwe Central Police Station, refused to accept a report of the incident from the ACT-SA director, a blatant violation of their duty to uphold the law and ensure the safety of citizens.

ACT-SA has demanded that all those implicated in illegal alluvial riverbed mining should be held accountable for their actions. Said Chaumba:

Members of the syndicate conducting these illegal alluvial riverbed mining activities should be held accountable for their actions.
The participation of the Zibagwe Rural District Council’s chief executive officer and Hardrock Mine should be probed, especially on the circumstances that led to the granting of the dam scooping authorisation that appears to have no applicant.
It should also be in the public interest to expose the high profile politically exposed individual or individuals who are alleged to be part of the syndicate and providing protection to all those on the ground.
It is alleged that the syndicate members are openly telling people that they will not stop the illegal mining activities because of the backing that they enjoy from some individuals who have political muscles.

The ACT-SA report has been shared with several government agencies, including the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and the Office of the President, calling for an immediate investigation into a syndicate involved in illegal alluvial riverbed mining.
ACT-SA has demanded urgent action from authorities to investigate the issuance of dam scooping authorizations, halt illegal mining, confiscate equipment, and hold perpetrators accountable.
The organisation also called for compensation for affected farmers and accountability for those abusing their power in this matter.
It urged the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) and other authorities to thoroughly investigate the involvement of Chinese parties in these illegal activities.

They are mad that some powerful people are protecting the illegal miners. The organization has asked for an investigation into the illegal mining and for the people involved to be punished. ACT-SA Condemns Illegal Gold Mining At MaDollar Dam Disguised As Scooping

Chief Weight Gwesela of Zhombe said that Rio Tinto High School teacher Fanuel Mwale (57), was most likely killed for ritual purposes.
Mwale’s body was found with missing eyes, ears and nose, and his head was skinned with a sharp object, according to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP). Police said:

Police in Kwekwe are appealing for information which may assist in the investigation of a case of murder in which a teacher at Rio Tinto High School, Zhombe, Fanuel Mwale (57) was found dead on 19/01/24 along an unnamed gravel road near Joel Business Centre.
The body was found with missing eyes, ears and nose. The head was skinned with an unknown sharp object.
The victim was last seen on 18/01/24 at around 1600 hours after knocking off duty.
Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.

Chief Gwesela told the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/grisly-murder-teacher-killed-face-skinned-eyes-and-ears-cut-off/">Chronicle</a> that there is a strong suspicion that the murder was ritualistic. He said:

This is unheard of, we have never witnessed such a thing in this community. We can only suspect that this was for ritual purposes.
</blockquote>
A ritual murder refers to the intentional act of taking a person’s life as part of a religious, spiritual, or ceremonial practice.
In Zimbabwe, one of the high-profile ritual killings was that of Tapiwa Makore who was murdered by his uncle and his herdsman to boost a cabbage business.

Zhombe Teacher Killed, Face Skinned, Eyes And Ears Cut Off

Three people have lost their lives and 23 others have been injured in a tragic road accident on the Harare-Bulawayo Road in Zimbabwe. The incident occurred when a Nissan Caravan kombi, carrying 18 passengers, collided head-on with a Toyota Wish vehicle carrying eight passengers. The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the accident. In a statement seen by Pindula News, the police stated that the deceased bodies have been taken to Kwekwe General Hospital for post-mortem examinations, while the injured individuals have been admitted to the same hospital. The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 215-kilometre peg along Harare –Bulawayo Road on 19/01/24 in which three people were killed whilst 23 others were injured when a Nissan Caravan kombi with 18 passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota Wish vehicle with eight passengers on board. In a separate incident, two people were killed and 12 others were injured when a Toyota Dyna vehicle overturned and landed on its roof along the Harare-Nyamapanda Road. The accident happened at the 81.5-kilometre mark on Friday 19 January 2024 around 2240 hours. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Murewa Hospital for post-mortem examinations, and the injured individuals are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Murder Case:
In another case unrelated to the accidents, ZRP is seeking information regarding a murder investigation. A teacher named Fanuel Mwale, aged 57, was found dead on an unnamed gravel road near Joel Business Centre. The body had missing eyes, ears, and nose, with the head skinned using an unidentified sharp object. Mwale, who worked at Rio Tinto High School in Zhombe, was last seen on January 18th at around 1600 hours after finishing work. The police in Kwekwe are appealing to anyone with information to come forward and report it at the nearest police station.

Tragic Road Accidents Claim 5 Lives And Injure 35; Police Investigate Gruesome Murder Of A Teacher

Police in Midlands Province have launched a manhunt for a suspected rapist from Zhombe who allegedly left his trousers and shoes at the crime scene after raping a 15-year-old girl in front of her two siblings.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/zhombe-rapist-leaves-trouser-shoes-at-crime-scene/">Chronicle</a>.
The incident occurred on Wednesday last week around 9:30 PM in Mugan’a Village under Chief Malisa in Zhombe. Said Inspector Mahoko:

It is alleged that the complainant (name withheld to protect her identity) was sleeping in her bedroom together with her two young brothers when the suspect Costa Muswazulu of Tito Village under Chief Malisa gained entry into the room armed with a knife.
</blockquote>
Muswazulu allegedly forced the complainant to wake up and pointed a knife at her threatening to stab her if she made any noise. Said Insp Mahoko:
<blockquote>
Muswazulu then removed his clothes before also undressing the complainant and raped her once.
</blockquote>
He said the complainant and her brothers screamed for help thereby waking up their elder brother who was sleeping in the kitchen.
The complainant’s brother tried to apprehend the suspect but was hit with a piece of wood resulting in Muswazulu escaping and fleeing into the darkness. Added Insp Mahoko:

Muswazulu escaped leaving behind his pair of trousers and shoes. The items have since been taken by the police as exhibits.

He appealed to members of the public who may have information that may assist in the arrest of the suspect to approach any nearest police station.

Rapist Leaves Trousers, Shoes At Crime Scene

A 24-year-old man from Zhombe, Midlands Province, is in critical condition at a local hospital after being attacked by three assailants in a revenge attack.
Joshua Zigandiwa of Village Kasekerere under Chief Ntabeni was reportedly savaged by three men after a misunderstanding over an issue that “occurred long ago”.
The incident occurred as they were drinking beer at Ngigeni Business Centre in Zhombe.
ZRP spokesperson in Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said that a misunderstanding arose between Zingandiwa and Mthabisi Matengambiri (18) of Village Sindi over a long-standing grudge. He said:

Matengambiri resultedly struck Zigandiwa with an axe once on the cheek before handing the axe to Lungisani Ndlovu (18) who also struck Zigandiwa on the back of the head.
As if that was not enough, another member of the gang, Thulani Siwela (20), also took an empty bottle and struck the complainant once on the head resulting in him falling unconscious.

Insp. Mahoko said police officers who were on patrol came to Zigandiwa’s rescue and apprehended the three suspects.
They helped rush the complainant to the hospital where he is said to be battling for his life.
Violent crime is a serious problem in Zimbabwe. The most common types of violent crime include armed robbery, carjacking, home invasion, and assault.
Some of the most common causes of violent crime include poverty, unemployment, drug and alcohol abuse, political instability, and a lack of education.

Zhombe Man Critically Injured In Revenge Attack

A man from Zhombe spent three months in jail after his 16-year-old daughter lied that he had raped her.
The father was set free on Wednesday when the matter was discharged at the close of the State case.
During cross-examination, the man’s daughter told the court that she had lied about the alleged abuse at the instigation of her mother who wanted to fix him.
The accused (whose name cannot be revealed to protect the identity of the girl), appeared before Gokwe regional magistrate Lungile Ncube facing one count of rape. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Melissa Makombe told the court that the complainant is from Mnidwa Village, Chief Malisa in Zhombe and she is a form two pupil at a local school.
On 26 July, at around 11 AM at their homestead, the daughter was at home with her father since her mother had gone to the garden.
The accused person allegedly called the complainant to his bedroom and upon entering the room the accused person pushed the complainant to the floor and she fell facing upward.
It was further alleged that the accused person pressed the complainant to the floor and raped her once.
The girl’s mother suddenly returned home, went to her bedroom, and caught the accused person red-handed raping his daughter, it was alleged.

Man Spends 3 Months In Jail After Daughter Frames Him For Rape

A sex worker from Zhombe, in Midlands Province, was bitten by a snake while she was being intimate with a “client” in a bush.
The incident occurred at Joel Shopping Centre when the sex worker had taken her client to a nearby bush for a session.
The lady, whose name could not be established, is admitted at Zhombe Mission Hospital where she is said to be in a stable condition.
The local traditional leader, Chief Weight Ndabezinhle Gwesela, confirmed the incident. He said:

It is true there was a woman who was bitten by a snake while having sex with her boyfriend in the bush. I heard the reports and I am told she is now recovering at the hospital.
</blockquote>
Chief Gwesela recently said poor harvests over the last farming season have pushed many girls in Zhombe into sex work and early marriages. He said:

What is worrying is these girls will be working for as little as a dollar or even a plate of sadza.
It is happening as people are facing hunger. So, they will be trying to make quick money thereby risking their lives.
The situation is bad in Zhombe and it has pushed many girls into prostitution and early marriages. The situation is forcing girls to turn to immorality.
As you are aware this is a gold-rich area and the illegal gold panners are now taking advantage to lure the young girls with money.

Ward 10 Junior Councillor Sithembinkosi Ncube said child prostitution was widespread in her ward. She said:

We have Joel Growth Point in our ward where child prostitution is rife.
Some of the girls were expelled from school for untoward behaviour and they turn to sex work.
Girls from the ward have become wild as they are lured with money by illegal gold miners.

Sex Worker Bitten By Snake While Being Intimate In The Bush

A Zhombe man died on the spot while his brother suffered serious head injuries after the two jumped off a moving vehicle.
Tendai Chibi (34) died on the spot and his brother, Leeroy Chibi (20) is battling for his life at a hospital, the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/man-jumps-to-death-from-moving-truck-2/">Chronicle</a> reported citing the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
Police said the two jumped off after the driver, Hilton Mungandi, failed to stop at a bus stop the two were supposed to be dropped off.
The driver abandoned the vehicle and disappeared after noticing what had happened and police instituted a manhunt for him.
Midlands Police Spokesman, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred on 12 November around 1:30 AM.
He said the two brothers were offered transport around 1:30 AM along Machengere-Empress Road and were seated in the loading box. said Inspector Mahoko:

The two had indicated that they wanted to drop off at Chinyudze Bus stop. The driver, however, did not stop at the intended destination prompting the two brothers to jump off the moving truck.

Tendai died on the spot after sustaining serious head injuries while his brother who also sustained head injuries, was rushed to Kadoma General Hospital where he is admitted.

Man Dies On Spot, Brother Hospitalised After Jumping From Moving Vehicle

Police in Midlands Province have appealed to the public for help in identifying the body of a male adult who is approximately 33 years old who was fatally assaulted by a mob on 29 October 2022 at Zhombe Shopping Centre.
The corpse is stuck at Kwekwe General Hospital and his relatives have not yet come forward to claim it.
ZRP spokesperson in Midlands Province, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said the deceased was found stealing groceries at a shop and he was assaulted several times all over the body with unknown objects and sustained severe injuries. He said:

Police are calling for assistance from the public in identifying the dead body of a male adult who died after being assaulted by unknown assailants.
The incident occurred at Zhombe Shopping Centre, Kwekwe on 29 October 2022 at about 0100 hours.
The story was covered by the media when the incident happened.
No relative came forward to claim the body and his particulars are not known.

The deceased was putting on a pair of blue work-suit trousers with a black belt, a blue jacket with a zip, and a blue t-shirt. Added Insp Mahoko:

Insp Mahoko said the deceased had no particulars on his person, making the identification of the body very difficult.

Kwekwe General Hospital Stuck With Corpse Of Victim Of Mob Justice

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported that four unknown machete-wielding assailants pounced on a gold mine in Zhombe and got away with 8kgs of pregnant carbon. 
In a report seen by Pindula News, ZRP said the suspects attacked and injured the security guards at the mine. Reads the statement:

The ZRP is investigating a murder case which occurred in Zhombe on 09/11/22 at around 0300 hours, where four unknown suspects who were armed with axes and machetes pounced at the mine and struck two security guards, Obert Moyo (56) and Herbert Zimbe (47), with axes before stealing 8kgs of pregnant carbon. The two victims sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Kwekwe General Hospital. Obert Moyo was pronounced dead upon arrival.

In the gold industry, activated carbon is used to recover gold from the gold-cyanide complex also known as the cyanide process. It is a technique for extracting gold from low-grade ore by converting the gold to a water-soluble coordination complex.
In January this year, ZRP arrested a man who was found in possession of 05 x 50kg sacks of pregnant carbons which were suspected to have been stolen from Gwanda, a gold mining town in Matabeleland South.
Meanwhile, ZRP Saruwe arrested Prosper Rocque Samanyanga (38) and Hardlife Chitsuro (32) on 09/11/22 for a case of unlawful entry into premises and theft, which occurred at Frenchoeck Farm on 04/11/22. 
It is alleged that the duo broke into a complainant’s storeroom and stole an ATA motorcycle. Police have since recovered the cycle, which had been sold in Darwendale.

Machete-wielding Robbers Pounce On Gold Mine And Get Away With 8kgs Of Pregnant Carbon

A man from Zhombe, Midlands Province, was seriously injured after he was scalded with hot cooking oil by his wife who accused him of infidelity.
ZRP spokesperson in Midlands Province, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident, saying investigations into the matter were underway. He said:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a case of attempted murder where a Zhombe man was scalded with boiling cooking oil by his wife over allegations of infidelity.
</blockquote>
The man, Taurai Hlala, was in the company of his wife Sobrine Muzioni, in the early hours of Sunday, and the couple was listening to music on a cellphone.
Suddenly, audio of a female voice started playing on the phone and a misunderstanding arose between the two. Said Mahoko:

The suspect is said to have gone to the kitchen where she boiled cooking oil and poured it on the complainant, resulting in him sustaining serious injuries.

Hlala was rushed to Kwekwe District Hospital where he was further referred to Sally Mugabe Hospital, where he is admitted, in a serious condition. Added Inspector Mahoko:

We urge members of the public to consider dialogue when misunderstandings arise than resorting to violence.

Wife Scalds Hubby With Cooking Oil Over WhatsApp Voice Note

A man from Zhombe, Midlands Province, has been missing since Monday this week after a crocodile dragged him into the Gweru River.
Mutsa Muchenje, whose age was not given, was reportedly fishing in a makeshift canoe with friends at a dam at ARDA Fair Acres in Dendera when he was attacked by the reptile.
Kwekwe District Civil Protection Unit Chairperson, Fortune Mpungu, confirmed the incident to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/zhombe-man-mauled-by-crocodile/">Chronicle</a>, saying Muchenje’s remains are yet to be located. Said Mpungu:

We received a report of a man who was mauled by a crocodile on Monday while fishing with others. They were using a makeshift canoe when the crocodile attacked.
Others managed to escape unhurt but Muchenje could not and was dragged into the water.

He added that the community together with the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management (Zimparks) as well as Zibagwe Rural District Council rangers are conducting a search for Muchenje’s remains.

Zhombe Man Dragged From Makeshift Boat By Crocodile

The Midlands Provincial Civil Protection Unit (CPU) has released the names of nine people who died when a<a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/news/2017/05/08/11-killed-zhombe-kombi-truck-head-collision/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> Toyota Hiace commuter omnibus collided head-on with a haulage truck near Summerview shopping centre in Zhombe</a>. The accident happened on Friday night and 11 people died in total, with 3 from the scotch cart and 8 from the commuter omnibus. Two deceased are yet to be identified and are at Kwekwe District Hospital mortuary
