Former Premier Soccer League boss Twine Phiri and former ZIFA financial director Phillemon Machana have withdrawn their appeals at the Court of Arbitration for Sports, where they were challenging Nqobile Magwizi’s election as ZIFA president.
Phiri and Machana had filed the appeal, alleging interference in the election after businessman Wicknell Chivayo offered a US$10 million sponsorship to the association and personal vehicles to ZIFA councillors in exchange for voting for Magwizi.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Phiri and Machana confirmed that they were withdrawing their appeal.
They explained that the decision was made to give football space to heal, stabilise, and grow, allowing the new executive committee to begin with a clean slate and without any contest.
The two also said that Chivayo, being no stranger to football sponsorship, should no longer be seen as having interfered in the election process. They added:

Our engagements over the past few days, both solicited and unsolicited with several key stakeholders, have influenced this latest decision.
We are grateful that in this season, ZIFA has attracted massive support and contributions from diverse sections of the population to whom we are indebted. 
Individuals like Mr. Chivayo and corporates alike have historically stood with the nation and the footballing world, sacrificing personal resources even in dire times. Such support is always encouraged and welcome and must not stop.
We therefore announce as we hereby do, that we are withdrawing the CAS appeal… we have instructed our lawyers to do the needful and withdraw the CAS appeal.

Earlier this month, Chivayo proposed a meeting with Phiri and Machana to “apologize, and agree on a gentleman’s private settlement, rather than have them tarnish my precious name over unfounded allegations.”

Chivayo faces accusations of vote-buying after pledging financial support for newly elected ZIFA president, Nqobile Magwizi.
In a statement on X, Chivayo dismissed the accusations, saying his promise of US$10 million and 78 brand-new vehicles to the 78 ZIFA voting delegates, if Magwizi won, did not amount to vote-buying or violate FIFA’s Code of Ethics.
He described the allegations as “baseless and misleading,” asserting that he is not bound by FIFA’s Code as he holds no official role within ZIFA. Wrote Chivayo:

Twine Phiri and Phillemon Machana, the losing candidates in the ZIFA presidential election, have taken their legal battle to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
They are challenging Magwizi’s victory in the January 25 poll, accusing him of benefiting from third-party interference.
Magwizi won decisively, securing 61 of the 77 votes cast (80%), while Machana and Phiri received six and four votes, respectively. T
he claimants allege undue influence, citing Chivayo’s financial promises and endorsements as compromising the election’s integrity.
In their CAS submission filed on January 29, Phiri and Machana seek the annulment of the results and demand fresh elections within 30 days.
They also want Magwizi barred from contesting, claiming he failed to distance himself from external influences, including Chivayo’s public support.
The petition further accuses Youth Minister Tino Machakaire of endorsing Magwizi before the election, with allegations of one delegate photographing their ballot under duress.
Phiri and Machana argue the election violated ZIFA statutes, which mandate immediate reporting of undue influence to FIFA and CAF.

In a social media post this Saturday, Chivayo defended his actions, arguing that his offers of support to ZIFA under Magwizi’s leadership did not amount to vote-buying. He said:

It has come to my attention that an alleged “PETITION” is being intended for submission to FIFA through social media, alleging that my public pledge to support ZIFA under the leadership of NQOBILE MAGWIZI constitutes “vote-buying” and violates the FIFA Code of Ethics.

Chivayo further argued that the FIFA Code of Ethics, specifically Articles 20 and 21 governs the offering and accepting of gifts or benefits by individuals bound by the Code. He added:

I am NOT BOUND by this Code, as I am neither a ZIFA official, board member, nor councillor. My contributions are those of a PRIVATE BUSINESSMAN acting within the bounds of the law and out of a genuine commitment to the DEVELOPMENT of football in Zimbabwe.

Chivayo said his support for Magwizi is rooted in Magwizi’s qualifications, including his integrity, business acumen, and passion for the sport. He said:

Chivayo Denies Influencing ZIFA Vote

Two candidates from the 25 January 2025 ZIFA presidency elections have challenged the outcome at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland.
Nqobile Magwizi was declared the winner with 61 votes out of 76 ballots. However, Twine Phiri and Philemon Machana claim that third-party influence affected the election, swaying the result in Magwizi’s favor.
Phiri and Machana, represented by Method Ndlovu of Ncube Partners law firm, allege that businessman Wicknell Chivayo promised to buy Magwizi a new Toyota Land Cruiser 2024 edition if he won and also offered US$10 million in funding to ZIFA, contingent on Magwizi’s leadership.
They also claim Chivayo promised to buy a brand new vehicle for each voting councillor if Magwizi won.
The candidates also allege that government minister Tino Machakaire influenced the vote by publicly endorsing Magwizi.
Phiri, the former Premier Soccer League chairman, and Machana, a former ZIFA board member, want the election results nullified and a new election organized.
They are seeking a declaration that third-party influence rendered the election illegitimate.
Machana and Phiri are also calling for a fresh election, with the councillors who voted in the previous election to be barred from voting, as they believe their votes are tainted.
They further request that Magwizi be prohibited from standing as a candidate in the new election.
One of their key arguments is that a councillor was caught attempting to take a picture of their completed ballot to prove to their paymasters that they had followed instructions. They said:

No wonder why one voting delegate was caught taking a photo of his cast ballot while in the voting booth. This was meant to show his handlers how he had voted.
The probabilities are that he and his fellow voting delegates were under pressure to show third parties how they had voted.
That means they did not exercise their right to vote freely. In other words, they did not vote according to their conscience.

Magwizi secured 61 of the 77 votes cast, while his closest rival, Philemon Machana, received six votes.
Twine Phiri garnered four votes, Marshall Gore received one, and Makwinji Soma Phiri finished without a single vote. Only 72 votes were valid, while the other five ballots were spoiled.
However, Wicknell Chivayo’s promise to gift vehicles to ZIFA councillors who backed Magwizi raised concerns about vote-buying.
Presidential aspirant Martin Kweza withdrew his candidacy on election morning, reportedly under pressure.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200037412/nqobile-magwizi-elected-zifa-president">NewsDay</a> reported sources as saying Kweza’s exit was to avoid splitting votes that could have thwarted Magwizi’s rise.
Loveness Wadzanai Mukura has been voted ZIFA Vice President after winning 43 votes, ahead of Mavis Gumbo’s 26, while Kenny Ndebele was also voted vice president.
The six ZIFA ordinary executive members and their votes are: Tafadzwa Benza (57), Thomas Marambanyika (37), Kudzai Kadzombe (35), Brighton Ushendibaba (33), Davison Muchena (32), and Alice Zeure (27).

Nqobile Magwizi won the election to become the new president of ZIFA, the Zimbabwe Football Association, with a lot of votes. Some people were worried that some votes were bought. Another person dropped out of the election to help Magwizi win. Loveness Wadzanai Mukura and Kenny Ndebele were chosen as vice presidents. There were also six other people picked to be part of the ZIFA leadership.

Magwizi Secures Landslide Victory In ZIFA Presidential Election

Wicknell Chivayo has endorsed Nqobile Magwizi’s candidacy ahead of the ZIFA presidential election at Rainbow Towers in Harare this Saturday.
Six candidates have been cleared to run for the ZIFA presidency: Magwizi, Philemon Machana, Marshall Gore, Martin Kweza, Makwinji Soma-Phiri, and Twine Phiri.
Chivayo, posting on his social media pages, claimed that Magwizi is a respected businessman with considerable expertise in finance, marketing, and sports administration. He said:

His track record includes securing multi-million sponsorships for Highlanders FC and Dynamos FC, demonstrating a blend of competence and passion for the sport.
Zimbabwe needs this calibre of leadership to transform ZIFA into a world-class institution capable of revitalizing our football legacy.

Chivayo said that if Magwizi wins, he will gift him a brand new 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series worth US$200,000, which he believes is a car befitting the status of a ZIFA President. Added Chivayo:

After Mr Magwizi takes office, with his authority I will also motivate the newly elected Board members and all Councillors countrywide, each of them will also receive brand new vehicles, details of which I will disclose at a later stage.

Chivayo also pledged US$10 million in cash to sponsor ZIFA and spearhead the revival of football administration in Zimbabwe. He said:

These funds will be strategically directed towards grassroots development, operational excellence and the sport’s commercialization.
Further details of this sponsorship will however only be finalized and disclosed after Magwizi’s victory and the inauguration of the new Board.

Chivayo said he will only provide financial contributions to ZIFA if Magwizi is elected as the undisputed ZIFA President.
Chivayo donated US$1 million to ZIFA in 2015 under the leadership of Phillip Chiyangwa.
The businessman’s pledge to fund the association again has elated some football stakeholders, who believe Magwizi’s presidency could herald a new era of stability and progress for the game in Zimbabwe.
However, the prospect of Chivayo’s involvement has also raised concerns among some football lovers, who are wary of the businessman’s true motives. 
There is a belief that people close to the country’s political leadership, like Chivayo, may not have the genuine interests of football at heart but rather seek to exert control over the sport as part of a broader agenda.

A man named Wicknell Chivayo promised to give ZIFA $10 million but only if Nqobile Magwizi wins the election. Magwizi wants to be the ZIFA President. Chivayo thinks Magwizi is a great leader with lots of experience in sports. Chivayo also promised to give Magwizi a fancy car and other new cars to people in ZIFA if he wins. Some people are happy about Chivayo's promise, but others are worried because they think he may have other reasons for helping out. Chivayo gave ZIFA money before in 2015 and now wants to help again if Magwizi wins.

Chivayo Pledges US$10 Million To ZIFA But Only If Nqobile Magwizi Wins

High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi dismissed an urgent application by disqualified ZIFA presidential aspirant Walter Magaya on Thursday, reported <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/high-court-dismisses-magaya-challenge/">The Herald</a>.
Magaya wanted the court to overturn the ZIFA Ethics Committee’s decision and allow him to contest the election.
The Harare-based pastor challenged a clause in ZIFA’s new statutes requiring the president and vice presidents to have passed a minimum of five O-level subjects or an equivalent educational level.
Magaya, one of five disqualified candidates, did not submit an O-level certificate and argued that ZIFA’s decision not to accept his alternative qualifications was “unreasonable,” “discriminatory,” and “unlawful.”
He cited ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairman Lincoln Mutasa, the ZIFA Electoral Committee, and the ZIFA Normalisation Committee as respondents.
The ZIFA Ethics Committee disqualified Magaya for not submitting the required O-level certificate with five subject passes. Said the judge:

There was nothing grossly unreasonable and irregular in the decision reached to disqualify the applicant, who has not done himself good by withholding facts and not being candid with the court with information, which he says, if this decision is set aside and he places it before the vetting committee, the decision may be deferred. Accordingly, the challenge by the applicant cannot succeed.
It is my view that the challenge by the applicant was not frivolous or vexatious and involved a matter of public interest. I am of the view that the appropriate order in relation to costs is one in which each party must pay its own costs.
Accordingly, I dispose of this matter as promised. This application is dismissed, and each party will pay its own costs.

Magaya and his lawyers argued that ZIFA did not consider his tertiary qualifications, including diplomas from the University of South Africa (UNISA).
He claimed his higher qualifications, a certificate in marketing and another in theology, should meet ZIFA’s requirements for equivalent qualifications.
Magaya argued that the Electoral Committee made a mistake by not considering his tertiary qualifications and not informing him in writing within seven days that additional documents were needed.
He also said the committee lacked a clear appeal structure.
However, Justice Chitapi ruled that the issue is not whether a diploma is higher than O-Level, but that the minimum requirement of five O-Level passes must still be met. Said the judge:
<blockquote>
The issue is not whether a diploma is higher than O-Level, but that the minimum requirement of five O-Level passes must still be met. Even a PhD holder must produce an O-Level certificate.
The requirement to have O-levels or their equivalent must be met. The effect that holds a degree, which is a higher qualification, does not, unless the requirements absolve the applicant from producing an O-level qualification or equivalent.
It is incorrect as established by the applicants that O-levels are a minimum requirement. The minimum refers to a number of subjects, which is given as five O-levels. Thus, if a candidate has passed less than five subjects, he cannot qualify.
What this means is that the applicant will have to produce the equivalent education, which shows that the educational qualification is indeed equivalent to a minimum of those five O-level subjects and must give an indication of the curriculum that is covered by that equivalent.
The applicant will be required to produce the O-level certificate or equivalent, even if he holds a PhD. That is the spirit behind Article 38 (of the ZIFA constitution).

The ruling means that ZIFA can proceed with elections on 25 January 2025 without worrying about legal challenges in formal courts.
Justice Chitapi also dismissed another High Court application by Temba Mliswa earlier this week.
However, Magaya, Mliswa, Benjani Mwaruwari, and Gift Banda, who wanted to contest the vice-presidency, still have pending cases with the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland, as per Article 65 of the new ZIFA constitution.
Six candidates — Philemon Machana, Nqobile Magwizi, Marshall Gore, Martin Kweza, Makwinji Soma-Phiri, and Twine Phiri — have been cleared to run for ZIFA presidency.

The High Court said no to Walter Magaya's request to run for ZIFA president because he didn't have the required O-Level qualifications. Magaya has diplomas, but the court said that's not enough. ZIFA can now hold elections without worrying about legal problems. Other disqualified candidates still have cases pending. Six people are still allowed to run for president.

High Court Throws Out Magaya's Application To Contest ZIFA Elections

Marshall Gore, an aspiring ZIFA presidential candidate, has identified the Government as a key player in developing football in Zimbabwe.
With over two decades of experience as a football agent, Gore said that there is a need for people who are passionate about football to be in leadership positions for the sport to grow in the country. Said Gore (via <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/gore-banks-on-govt-support/">The Herald</a>):

My main reason for wanting to go for the president in the ZIFA elections is the pain we suffered as a country when we were suspended from international football.
I strongly believe that those problems could have been eliminated if we had people who had the game at heart.
So, I actually think that was a turning point for me, which led me to want to do this.

Gore said that, once elected, he plans to make football an all-inclusive sport that will receive support from the Government. He said:
<blockquote>
We want to be in a position to say if the Government gives us a million dollars to put into grassroots football, we must demonstrate the dividend that will come out from that one million. What are the dividends?
We are looking at the targets. The targets will be making the sport inclusive, making sure that people in rural areas play football, and football is an agent for crime prevention…
Government should see the value of football. Gone are the days when the Government only came in to rescue the Warriors.
Why this happened is because the Government had a feeling that it’s not profitable to invest in football.
But we must submit a bankable business plan to them and have a contract with them. And then we move on to the private sector.
We want the private sector to come back into football. But we must clearly outline the deliverables if money comes to us.
So, we need to repackage the game and clearly position the private sector and show them the benefits that they will derive from sponsoring the game and clearly put the outcomes.
In the same vein, we must also engage the government to extend tax rebates to the companies that are loyal in supporting football development.
That is another way we can say to the Government, “Release tax rebates for companies that are investing in football.”
And then this can help us to also get revenue coming in so that we can effectively take off in growing the game.

Gore has been travelling across the country, meeting with ZIFA councillors, and promising to empower them through various training programmes.

Marshall Gore wants to be the President of ZIFA. He thinks Government is important for football. He wants Government to give money for grassroots football. He also wants private companies to give money. He has plans to make football inclusive and prevent crime. He thinks Government should give tax rebates to companies that support football. Gore promises to help ZIFA councillors with training. He believes football in Zimbabwe can grow with support from the Government and private sector.

Aspiring ZIFA President, Marshall Gore, Identifies Government As Key Stakeholder In Football

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee is relieved that one of the two court cases trying to stop this week’s election ended in their favour, reported <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/mliswa-loses-zifa-elections-bid/">The Herald</a>.
On Tuesday, presidential candidate Temba Mliswa withdrew his urgent High Court application to stop the election.
ZIFA’s lawyer, Lovemore Madhuku, argued successfully that Mliswa’s case was not urgent.
Mliswa and another disqualified presidential candidate, Walter Magaya, have been trying to postpone the elections scheduled for Saturday at the Rainbow Towers in Harare.
Justice Tawanda Chitapi will decide on Magaya’s challenge on Thursday.
Mliswa was challenging the election process and the new ZIFA rules adopted by Congress on October 18 last year.
The urgent review application was supposed to be filed within eight weeks, but Mliswa submitted it after 11 weeks. Said Madhuku:

After some three hours of argument, we were able to reach a position where Mliswa, through his legal counsel, conceded that the review application was out of time, which then made the urgent chamber application not founded on that.
For us ZIFA, we are happy that at least one challenge is out of the way and that the next one will happen in two days.

Mliswa and his lawyer had to withdraw their urgent application for review because it was filed too late. 
However, Justice Chitapi said Mliswa could still pursue the case through a regular court application. 
Mliswa’s lawyer, Musindo Hungwe, admitted that they had missed the deadline. He said:
<blockquote>
The outcome of the matter is that after the argument and the issues raised in relation to the time frame within which the main application for review was filed, it became clear that the application was filed a bit out of time, and we have made a confession to that effect.
Given that concession and the need for condemnation in that aspect, we have considered that this present application be withdrawn.
So effectively we have withdrawn the application, a decision that has been accepted by the respondents. So, that is the status of the case.

Mliswa, one of the five candidates disqualified by the ZIFA Electoral Committee for not meeting their ethics and eligibility criteria, said he will now pursue the matter through a regular court application.
He argues that the ZIFA Congress, which adopted the constitution for the upcoming elections, had no authority to do so because its term expired in 2022.
However, FIFA had extended the term of Congress as part of the normalisation process and ZIFA reform efforts.

Temba Mliswa wanted to stop ZIFA elections but withdrew his court case. ZIFA's lawyer said his case wasn't urgent. Another candidate, Walter Magaya, also wants to stop the elections. Mliswa missed the deadline to file his case. The court said he can still try again. Mliswa will now use a regular court application. He thinks the ZIFA Congress had no right to make new rules. FIFA had extended the Congress's term to help ZIFA change. Mliswa will keep fighting in court.

Mliswa Withdraws Urgent Court Application To Stop ZIFA Elections

Seasoned football administrator Gilbert Saika has pledged to advocate for better structures in the women’s football industry if elected as a ZIFA board member in the upcoming elections.
Speaking to this publication, Saika pointed out the lack of proper structures in women’s football, which he believes is a disadvantage to the girl child. He said:

I agree women’s football is inclining, but I’m not happy with the status because look at our women’s football premiership in part and its regions.
We are disadvantaging the girl child because there is women’s region football, which the clubs are supposed to feed into the Premier League.
So let’s widen the numbers of the teams and ask FIFA for a grant, which I feel they have a soft heart for the girls’ child’s development.

Saika’s football journey began around 2000 when he served as a board member of finance for seven years.
Following that, he was the chairman of the then-premiership club Mwana Africa and later joined the Northern region club Trojan Stars.
Since 2014, he has been serving as the chairman for the National and Central Provinces.

Gilbert Saika wants to make women's football better if he gets elected to ZIFA. He thinks there are not enough good systems for women's football, which is unfair to girls. He wants to make more teams and get money from FIFA to help girls play football. Saika has been in football for a long time and has been in charge of different clubs. ZIFA Candidate Saika Vows To Strengthen Women's Football Structures

High Court Judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi has reserved his judgment until Thursday next week in the case where Walter Magaya is challenging his disqualification from contesting for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) presidency.
Magaya, who contends that his removal from the candidate list was illegal, has taken ZIFA to court.
According to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/magaya-zifa-challenge-judge-reserves-judgement-to-thursday/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>, during Friday’s proceedings, Magaya’s lawyer, Advocate Thabani Mpofu, argued that the ZIFA ethics committee’s decision should be reversed, alleging that the ruling was made in an irregular manner that bordered on corruption. Said Mpofu:

What brings us to court is a simple and very straightforward issue. The requirement set out in the ZIFA Constitution is clear, it says ‘O’ Level or an equivalent qualification.
If a qualification issued by a university is even better than ‘O’ Level, on that, this application ought to succeed.

Magaya submitted a diploma from the University of South Africa (UNISA), which he argues is superior to an O’Level certificate. Said Mpofu:

The respondents show that they are alive to a fact that they have to give reasons for the disqualification. But what they have not done is to give reasons to say that the documents they received do not amount to a qualification.
What the Constitution establishes is a minimum requirement. The tariff in the statute is a minimum qualification.
The Electoral Code envisages that candidates may fail to meet requirements by failing to produce certain document… and when they fail, they don’t get disqualified.

Mpofu also pointed out that while Magaya was unable to produce his ‘O’ Level certificate, this does not imply he lacks the qualification.
He argued that, according to the ZIFA Constitution, a candidate should be given seven days to submit such documents.
Mpofu further contended that none of the respondents had the authority to disqualify prospective candidates.
He claimed that Magaya had a conversation with Lincoln Mutasa, the ZIFA normalisation committee chairperson, who clarified that the issue of qualifications was not the reason for Magaya’s disqualification.
Mpofu said his client will challenge Mutasa to dispute that.
Lovemore Madhuku representing ZIFA argued that Magaya’s application was not properly before the court. Said Madhuku:

The decisions of the respondent are not reviewable by this court. We don’t know the basis on which we as ZIFA are being brought to court.

During the hearing, Chitapi said ZIFA was supposed to bring a record of proceedings, which culminated in Magaya’s disqualification. Said Chitapi:

If that record exists, it should be brought before the court to ascertain who took that decision. Without the record, there is nothing to talk about. The rules say that they have a duty to ensure that the record should be made available.
The issue is the law says there should be that record, the submissions should speak on the action which was taken.

Walter Magaya is fighting ZIFA because they removed him from the contest for president. His lawyer says the decision was unfair and not lawful. Magaya has a diploma which is better than the required 'O' Level certificate. Magaya's lawyer argues that he should have been given more time to provide the needed documents. ZIFA says the court cannot review their decisions. The judge wants to see the record of how Magaya was disqualified before making a decision. Magaya's lawyer is confident they have a strong case. The judge will make a decision next week.

Aspiring ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi has proposed that the football fraternity should honour legends by establishing a Hall of Fame section in stadiums.

Magwizi Proposes Hall Of Fame In Stadiums For Football Legends

ZIFA presidential aspirant Walter Magaya has challenged the demand for an O’ Level certificate for candidates bidding to contest for the association’s president and vice-president positions at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Magaya admits that he did not submit an O’ Level certificate, but he argues that he has deposited superior qualifications to the electoral committee.
Despite this, he was barred from contesting the January 25 ZIFA elections on the basis that he did not meet the O’ Level certificate requirement.
Magaya has also approached the High Court, seeking to suspend the ZIFA elections until his matter has been resolved with CAS.
The case was heard in the High Court on Wednesday, with Justice Tawanda Chitapi saying the matter was urgent and would be heard on Friday. Magaya’s statement of appeal reads:

In the present appeal, appellant is requesting the Court of Arbitration for Sport to appoint a tribunal to determine an appeal against the decision of the Zimbabwe Football Association as represented by the first respondent (Lincoln Mutasa) to disqualify the appellant from the ongoing elections for the president of ZIFA.
It was concluded that the appellant did not meet the necessary criteria to proceed as a candidate, specifically due to the non-submission of his Ordinary Level certificates.

Magaya contends that the electoral committee failed in its interpretation of the “minimum of five O’ Level or equivalent” requirement.
He argued that this provision is discriminatory and was deliberately set to exclude administrators and former players from the administration of the game.
Magaya, who also owns the Premier Soccer League club Yadah, said that with a marketing certificate, marketing diploma, and theology diploma, he was above the minimum requirements. He argued:

The appellant seeks a determination that a proper and purposive interpretation of the statutes supports the view that his qualifications, which include a higher certificate in Marketing, a national diploma in Marketing, and a higher certificate in Theology (Cum laude), are not equivalent but are better that a mere five O’ Levels.
They exceed the O’ Level certificate requirement and must be accepted for purposes of contesting the ZIFA presidency.

Magaya is requesting “a decision allowing the appeal by the appellant” and that “the decision of the ZIFA Normalisation Committee disqualifying the appellant as a candidate for the Zimbabwe Football Association executive election for non-submission of Ordinary Level certificates be set aside.”
Magaya has also asked the court to order the first and second respondents (ZIFA and the Normalisation Committee) to “jointly pay the full costs of the tribunal and that of the appellant.”
This development comes as another high-profile figure, Temba Mliswa, who was also barred from contesting the ZIFA elections, has taken the association to court in a bid to stop the elections. 
Mliswa’s matter will be heard this week, with the court also deeming it urgent.

Walter Magaya Challenges ZIFA O' Level Requirement

ZIFA Normalisation Committee chairman Lincoln Mutasa has dismissed as fake a letter purportedly sent by FIFA, which claimed that the world football body’s independent ethics committee was probing Nqobile Magwizi’s candidature.
Magwizi, reportedly linked to businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei, who has supported Dynamos and Highlanders financially through his company Sakunda, is among several candidates cleared to run in the upcoming ZIFA presidential elections on January 25.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/zifa-dismiss-fake-fifa-letter-association-not-reinstating-disqualified-candidates/">The Herald</a>, Mutasa said it was untrue that they were being probed by FIFA for the manner in which they had accepted Magwizi’s nomination.
He also dismissed claims that his Normalisation Committee may have breached the ZIFA constitution in the process of accepting and rejecting nominations by the association’s board aspirants. Said Mutasa:

We hear there are false claims being made that everyone who had wanted to compete has been invited back, there is no such development.
</blockquote>
Mutasa insisted that the process used by the Normalisation Committee was guided by the ZIFA constitution of October 2024, was above board, and was applied equally to all aspirants.
The letter, supposedly written by Martin Ngoga, a FIFA Ethics Committee vice-chairman, is unsigned and erroneously refers to Ngoga as the chairperson of the committee.
The purported FIFA letter, dated January 10, 2014 [which is 11 years ago], was allegedly in response to a letter from an anonymous investigative sports journalist who had red-flagged Magwizi’s candidature. Reads the letter in part:

Thank you for bringing your concerns to the attention of FIFA. We acknowledge receipt of your formal complaint dated 07/01/25 regarding the nomination of Mr Nqobile Magwizi for the presidency of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
FIFA takes allegations of unethical practices, non-compliance with constitutional requirements, political interference, and vote-buying with utmost seriousness.
The issues raised in your correspondence, including the allegations of undue political influence, vote-buying, and OFAC sanctions are of significant concern to FIFA’s commitment to integrity and ethical governance.
In response to your complaint, the matter has been referred to the FIFA Ethics Committee, under the leadership of Chairperson Mr Martin Ngoga, for a thorough investigation.
The committee is committed to conducting a detailed and impartial review of the allegation, ensuring full compliance with FIFA statutes and ethical standards.
The FIFA Ethics Committee will engage with relevant parties, including ZIFA and the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC), to examine the integrity of the electoral process and address any breaches of governance, ethics, or FIFA’s principles of fair play and political neutrality.

ZIFA Rejects Claims Of FIFA Investigation Into Magwizi

The ZIFA Normalisation Committee remains resolute that the elections scheduled for January 25 will proceed as planned, despite court challenges by disqualified executive committee aspirants.
Benjani Mwaruwari, Gift Banda, and Walter Magaya, who were disqualified, have initiated legal proceedings to challenge their exclusion from the elections.
Mwaruwari and Banda have lodged a joint appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland, while Magaya’s bid is with the High Court in Harare.
The three men were deemed to have failed the Ethics and Integrity Test conducted by the Normalisation Committee, which also serves as the Electoral Committee at the behest of FIFA.
Their names, along with those of Farai Jere and Temba Mliswa, were excluded from the list made public by the Normalisation Committee on December 23.
Jere, a Member of Parliament, chose not to challenge his disqualification, but Mliswa is reportedly launching a separate challenge at the High Court, questioning the legitimacy of Congress to participate in the polls.
In a statement on Tuesday, ZIFA Normalisation Committee member Nyasha Sanyamandwe insisted that ZIFA is proceeding with preparations to stage the elections as scheduled on January 25. She said:

The ZIFA Normalisation Committee, acting in its capacity as the ZIFA Electoral Committee, acknowledges receipt of Walter Magaya’s court application for review, filed with the High Court of Zimbabwe, challenging his ineligibility to contest for the ZIFA presidency.
This ineligibility was communicated on 23 December 2024. The ZIFA Electoral Committee wishes to clarify that Mr Magaya’s decision to approach local courts is ultra vires the ZIFA Statutes.
While the application is framed as a request for review, it does not address any procedural irregularities but rather raises substantive issues that should have been directed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), as stipulated by the ZIFA Statutes.

Sanyamandwe said Magaya’s challenge should have followed the same path taken by Mwaruwari and Banda. She said:

In contrast, we commend both Benjani Mwaruwari and Gift Banda for their adherence to the established processes.
Their decision to challenge their ineligibility at CAS demonstrates a commitment to upholding the ZIFA Statutes.

For clarity, we received the CAS application on Monday afternoon, 6 January 2025. The Electoral Committee is working closely with its external legal counsel to ensure an appropriate response within the stipulated dies inducia of two days.
We will monitor the CAS proceedings closely and engage as required. As it stands, the ZIFA elections will proceed as scheduled.

An 11-member executive committee, also known as the board, will be elected on January 25 and will have a four-year mandate to run the affairs of ZIFA.
The Normalisation Committee is set to announce the final list of candidates on January 15. On that same day, the Committee will also disclose the names of 78 delegates from ZIFA members who will be eligible to vote when Congress convenes at Rainbow Towers on January 25.

Mwaruwari reportedly did not have the required five Ordinary Level passes and submitted his UEFA A coaching certificate as an equivalent qualification.
Banda, a Bulawayo-based businessman and former ZIFA acting president, was disqualified from running in the upcoming ZIFA election after failing the integrity test required for candidates.
CAS, in an emailed response to an enquiry by the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/court-of-arbitration-for-sport-confirms-receipt-of-mwaruwari-banda-joint-appeal/">Zimpapers Sports Hub</a>, confirmed that the duo’s appeal has been registered under CAS 2024/A/11104. CAS said:

In an interview with <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/simba-ndoro-pulls-out-of-zifa-elections/">Zimpapers Sports Hub</a>, Ndoro said his decision came after deep reflection and consultations with family during the festive season. He said:

I have used part of these festive holidays to do some soul-searching, re-energising, and consulting with close family members, and I have come to a conclusion that for now I will let the ZIFA elections pass.
There will soon come a time when I will join the ZIFA election race again when I would have done enough to put in all the necessary support structures for Simba Bhora.

Under Simba Bhora president Simba “Buju” Ndoro’s leadership, the club secured the 2024 Castle Lager Premiership title in their second season in the top flight, becoming the first champions from Mashonaland Central Province.
Ndoro said the club’s ambitious plans include participation in the CAF Champions League, which will place additional demands on their resources and administration.
He also hopes the club will host their Champions League matches at the refurbished Wadzanai Stadium in Shamva, pending approval from ZIFA’s First Instance Board.

Simba Ndoro Withdraws From ZIFA Election Race Despite Passing Ethics Test

The ZIFA board, set to take office on January 25, 2025, will decide whether the current Assembly remains or if elections will be held.
Nyasha Samanyandwe, a legal practitioner and member of the ZIFA Normalisation Committee, said on Monday that it will be up to the new board to either retain the existing Assembly or hold elections for Area Zone, provinces, regions, women’s soccer, and other bodies like Futsal and Beach Football. She said (via <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/new-zifa-board-will-decide-councillors-future/">The Herald</a>):

The way forward beyond 25 January is not our mandate. We can only recommend if our advice is sought; otherwise, our focus is getting elections done on the day, and we wind up. It will be up to the new board to decide the way forward.

The mandate of the ZIFA Assembly ended in 2022 after serving a four-year term that began in 2018, with Felton Kamambo and Gift Banda having been voted president and deputy.
When FIFA appointed the NC last year, they allowed the Assembly members to participate in the association’s annual general meeting on November 22, which approved the new constitution and pathway to the January 25 elections.
Some of the councillors have been in office for nearly two decades.

Speaking to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/mutasa-speaks-out-as-jere-backs-down/">Zimpapers Sports Hub</a> on Tuesday, Mutasa explained that the Normalisation Committee, which is acting as the Electoral Committee for these elections, is adhering to the amended ZIFA constitution and the association’s electoral code. According to Mutasa, those who wish to challenge the disqualification decisions can file their appeals with the Swiss-based Court of Arbitration for Sport, in accordance with Article 85(9) of the ZIFA constitution.

Former Hurungwe West and Norton MP, Temba Mliswa has warned Zimbabwean football fans that the administration of the sport in the country has been taken over by a powerful and corrupt cabal, with money playing a central role.
Mliswa, PHD Ministries founder Walter Magaya, PSL chairman Farai Jere, and Warriors legend Benjani Mwaruwari, were barred from running for the ZIFA Presidency in a month by the ZIFA Electoral Committee.
Six candidates—businessman Nqobile Magwizi, Northern Region Soccer League chairperson Martin Kweza, former ZIFA board member Philemon Machana, Team Zimbabwe UK CEO Marshal Gore, former PSL chairperson Twine Phiri, and former footballer Makwinje Phiri—have successfully passed the integrity test and are eligible to run for the ZIFA presidency.
Mliswa further said that this cabal has not limited its influence to football alone, but has also targeted rugby and cricket. He said:

Many have missed the forest for the trees in the ZIFA saga. The minutiae of individual candidates such as myself, removed from contesting, is a mere addendum to the actual conspiracy by an elite clique intent on capturing the whole football sector.
It’s a plot which is playing before national eyes but many have missed it. As I have previously stated, my ambition and goal isn’t just to enter the fray and iron out things but to stop the serious capture which many are overlooking.
We have already seen the same with rugby where Mtongwiza is enjoying unparalleled profligacy and wanton control.
The very letter by one, Kufa, alleging why I shouldn’t stand had internal documents, minutes from ZRU meetings, which are supposed to be confidential.
It’s a brazen revelation of collusion between varied people working to undermine the emergence of independent &amp; intrepid minds like myself in the ZIFA ecosystem.
The same was tried with Cricket but ZC Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani was strong enough to resist such criminal overtures.
Now they have come to football. Under the guise of an SRC-sanctioned vetting process proxies have been allowed through while some of us, deemed ungovernable and uncontrollable, have been swiftly supplanted by dolls with hidden puppeteers.

Mliswa claimed that among the six candidates allowed to contest the ZIFA presidency, most are mere proxies strategically positioned to further elitist objectives, primarily focused on the large-scale misappropriation of resources. He said:

Many of those remaining are mere proxies strategically placed to advance the elitist objectives central of which will be the massive pilfering of resources.
The vetting, judging by the names remaining, was a literal handpicking of convenient and pliable candidates.
Therefore we should be careful not to amateurishly redact this scandal into a fiasco about Temba being removed but comprehend the full conspiracy which entails a long game to disembowel the football sector.
Tentacles are already spreading as reflected by the MWOS and Scotland saga where money was the chief player.

The MWOS and Scottland FC promotion saga centred around the fierce competition between the two teams in the Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL) for a coveted spot in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). As the season drew to a close, both teams were locked in a tight race, with each vying for promotion.
Scottland FC, owned by Pedzisai “Scott” Sakupwanya, reportedly offered significant financial incentives to its players to secure the championship.
Meanwhile, MWOS FC became embroiled in allegations of match-fixing, with claims that some of their players were approached by soccer legends to throw games, ultimately benefiting Scottland in their pursuit of the title.
The situation came to a head when Scottland FC was awarded maximum points from an abandoned match against Karoi United.
This controversial decision propelled them to the top of the table, allowing Scottland to secure promotion to the PSL.

Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairperson Farai Jere has accepted the ZIFA Ethics Committee’s decision to bar him from contesting the Executive Committee elections on January 25.
Jere, along with former Member of Parliament Temba Mliswa, Walter Magaya, and former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari, was excluded from the ZIFA election race.
Jere, who is the Member of Parliament for Murehwa West (ZANU PF), told <a href="https://www.zbcnews.co.zw/jere-accepts-zifa-verdict/">ZBC News</a> on Tuesday that he had written to ZIFA requesting an explanation for his exclusion from the contest. He said:

I got the response this morning. ZIFA explained to me that I submitted my notice of name change late when FIFA governance had already concluded the vetting process.
Before 2000, I used the name Farai Mutimbo and all my Ordinary and Advanced Level certificates bear that name.
Then I officially changed to Farai Jere in 2000 and my tertiary qualifications have that name, so the clarity came, but I was disappointed that they could have requested the notice in time and I could also be contested, but remember, everything happens for a reason.

When asked why he is not exercising his right to appeal, Jere said that his focus is on ensuring that football comes out as the winner. Said Jere:

I am a leader so I have to make decisions not just for myself. I want football to be the winner, not Jere. So if I appeal it means that it’s an emergency interdict to stop the elections until my case is heard.
My case is simple and I can easily win it, but the time that will take means I will delay the elections, so is that good for our football?
I am a Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sports chairperson, so I can’t be seen delaying the elections. 
Zimbabwean football needs to heal and move forward to start afresh with new leadership, so I am allowing that to happen because football must come first and football must be the winner.

Other candidates, including Benjani Mwaruwari, have also been seeking answers from ZIFA, and all four candidates have reportedly received explanations regarding their exclusion from the race.
Under the new ZIFA statutes, any aggrieved party has the right to appeal to a higher body. However, since the vetting and integrity checks were conducted and forwarded to FIFA’s Governance, Audit, and Compliance Committee, all appeals must now be directed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Six candidates—businessman Nqobile Magwizi, Northern Region Soccer League chairperson Martin Kweza, former ZIFA board member Philemon Machana, Team Zimbabwe UK CEO Marshal Gore, former PSL chairperson Twine Phiri, and former footballer Makwinje Phiri—have successfully passed the integrity test and are eligible to run for the ZIFA presidency.

Farai Jere, who wanted to run for a position in the soccer committee, cannot run in January because he missed a deadline to change his name on some documents. The ZIFA Electoral Committee has revealed that outgoing Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairman Farai Jere has been barred from competing in the upcoming ZIFA elections due to the late submission of essential documents.
Jere, along with notable figures such as Twine Phiri, Walter Magaya, Temba Mliswa, and Benjani Mwaruwari, did not meet the eligibility criteria and were therefore excluded from the final list of candidates for the ZIFA presidency.
Jere contested his exclusion, asserting that he was unjustly dismissed from the race, as he possesses the required five O Level passes.
However, a leaked letter from ZIFA National Committee chairman Lincoln Mutasa indicated that the issue stemmed from discrepancies in the submitted certificates, including a name mismatch, which was corrected after the deadline. Reads the letter in part:

Jere Seeks Clarity On ZIFA Candidacy Rejection

The ZIFA Ethics and Integrity Committee, working with the Normalisation Committee (NC), is set to announce today, December 23, the names of candidates vying for positions on the ZIFA Board in the upcoming elections.
The elections, which are scheduled for January 25, 2025, will mark the end of the NC’s term, paving the way for a new board elected by councillors to take over the governance of football in Zimbabwe.
Since the dismissal of the Felton Kamambo board on April 23, 2022, ZIFA has functioned without a substantive board. Gift Banda, who temporarily filled the position, served until July 11, 2023, when FIFA appointed the NC, chaired by Lincoln Mutasa.
In July, FIFA extended the terms of three NC members: chairman Mutasa, legal expert Nyasha Samanyandwe, and women’s football icon Rosemary Mugadza.
Cynthia Malaba, who managed the finance portfolio, concluded her role after establishing the necessary structures and policies.
Similarly, Sikhumbuzo Ndebele stepped down after successfully filling the positions of technical director and head of coach education.
The roadmap leading to the ZIFA elections included an annual general meeting on November 22, where the draft constitution was adopted.
The elections will be conducted in accordance with this new constitution, which stipulates that the president and male deputy must possess at least O-level qualifications.
Following the meeting, the nomination process opened on December 4 and closed on December 11. ZIFA set December 23 as the date for announcing candidates who have passed rigorous integrity and ethics checks, which involved verification with educational institutions and police clearances.
Once the candidate list is published, individuals will be allowed to commence their official campaigns, with final confirmations scheduled for January 15, 2025.

ZIFA Normalisation Committee Set To Release Candidate List

Aspiring Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president, Gift Banda (54), was arrested on Thursday on charges of forging an Ordinary Level certificate.
As reported by the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/gift-banda-arrested-over-fake-o-level-certificate/">Chronicle</a>, Banda, a former ZIFA vice-president and interim president, was taken into custody and spent the night at Western Commonage Police Station, where he assisted with investigations.
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Banda, also a former Bulawayo councillor and deputy mayor, is facing allegations of forgery.
The forged document claims that Banda passed the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) tests in 1986 at Mpopoma High School in Bulawayo.
However, at that time, the school, like many others across the country, only offered Cambridge examinations, as ZIMSEC was not established until 1996.
Banda is among several high-profile individuals who have expressed interest in running for the ZIFA presidency in elections set for early next year.
One of the requirements for candidates is to demonstrate possession of five Ordinary Level passes, and it is believed that Banda does not meet this criterion.
In connection with the case, another individual, Anele Zikhali from Bulawayo, was also arrested on Thursday for allegedly producing the fake certificate.

Gift Banda, who wants to be ZIFA president, got arrested. He is accused of making a fake certificate saying he passed his exams in 1986. Aspiring ZIFA President Gift Banda Arrested For Allegedly Forging O-Level Certificate

Temba Mliswa’s ex-girlfriend, Susan Mutami, has called on football stakeholders in Zimbabwe not to elect the former legislator as ZIFA President, asserting that he lacks the decorum required for such a prestigious position.
Mutami, who is based in Australia and has a child with Mliswa, said the aspiring ZIFA President is an irresponsible father.
 In a post on X, she claimed that he has never contributed a single cent towards the upbringing of their son, Tinotenda.
She warned that voting for Mliswa could expose female soccer players and office staff to potential abuse.
Mliswa has fathered more than 12 children with various women, and his breakup with Mutami was paid out on social media. Wrote Mutami:

Temba Mliswa abandoned his responsibilities as a father and has no respect for women at all. He only looks after certain kids to suit a certain narrative.
You will be putting all your female soccer players and office staff at risk of being taken advantage of and before you know it, the whole team and office administrators will be pregnant by Temba.
You will make it harder for other stakeholders and foreign embassies who genuinely want to assist the football fraternity by having Dodgy characters like Temba Mliswa as your President.

Susan Mutami Warns Against Electing Temba Mliswa As ZIFA President

At least nine candidates have formally expressed their interest in running for the ZIFA presidency in the upcoming election scheduled for January 25.
The vetting process, to be conducted by the ZIFA normalisation committee, will determine candidate eligibility, with results announced on December 23.
Among the candidates are UK-based Marshall Gore, Walter Magaya, Philemon Machana, Twine Phiri, Farai Jere, Martin Kweza, Temba Mliswa, Gilbert Muponda, and Nqobile Magwizi.
Nominations opened on November 22 and will close on December 11, after which the vetting will commence.
ZIFA councillors will elect a president, two deputies (one must be a woman), and six additional board members. The Premier Soccer League chairperson and the women’s football leader will also join the board.
Several candidates are vying for the two vice president posts, with one reserved for a woman.
Former Ngezi Platinum Stars chief executive officer Nyasha Kadenge, former ZIFA board member Mavis Gumbo, Loveness Mukura, former CAPS United administrator Joyce Kapota, Patience Mutumwa and Winnet Muropa intend to contest for the post.
Contenders include former ZIFA board vice-president Omega Sibanda and others like Gift Banda, Peter Dube, and Kennedy Ndebele.
For the six board member posts, candidates include Francis Zimunya, former Warriors team manager Shariff Mussa, former ZIFA spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela, Northern Region Division One Soccer League vice-chairperson Sweeney Mushonga, Andrew Tapela, Kudzai Kadzombe, Thomas Marambanyika, Admore Chivero, Gaza Dube and Desmond Ali.
Chicken Inn boss Tavengwa Hara is also in the running together with Tizirayi Lupahla, former Warriors team doctor Nicholas Munyonga, Tinashe Malunga, Davison Muchena, Masimba Chihowa of Manica Diamonds and Cuthbert Chitima who used to own Gunners Football Club.
Simba Bhora chairman Isaiah Mupfurutsa is on the list together with club owner Simba Ndoro, Former Warriors’ striker Alois Bunjira, and Derrick Matapura.
Women vying for board membership include Miriam Sibanda, Beaular Masara, and Christine Ndou.

Addressing a media conference attended by ZIFA chairman, Lincoln Mutasa, and another member of the committee Rosemary Mugadza, ZIFA board member Nyasha Sanyamandwe said:

Regarding the credibility of the councillors, we all have different thoughts about different people and opinions but legally speaking if no case has been put forward, and then a conviction, at least, that can incriminate an individual member, we cannot do anything about it.
We also need to highlight that law is law. These people are independent, this is what the ZIFA statutes are saying.
The councillors are coming and we are not even sure who is coming because they will give us their own delegates.

The ZIFA elections are scheduled to take place at the Rainbow Towers on January 25 next year. The deadline for submitting nominations is December 11, with candidates required to pass an eligibility test before being considered for the final shortlist, which will be confirmed by December 23.
Sanyamandwe said that current ZIFA officials holding positions within the association’s structures must step down before submitting their nominations for the executive committee. She said:

If you want to run for exco (executive committee) office but you are still holding a position within the membership structures, the electoral code is very clear.
Issues to do with conflict of interest should not be tolerated. So, they should do the needful.

ZIFA Avoids Debate On Councillors' Voting Eligibility

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee has announced the date for the ZIFA Executive Committee elections.
The Elective Congress will take place on 25 January 2024.
The nomination process is now open, and nomination forms are available on the ZIFA website, at the ZIFA NC offices in Milton Park, and at the ZIFA House. ZIFA said in a statement:

The upcoming elections will be conducted under the amended ZIFA constitution which was recently approved by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) and registered with FIFA.
Key changes in the constitution include a requirement for candidates to have passed at least five Ordinary Level subjects, including English Language, and to have been ordinarily resident in Zimbabwe for the past two years.
Additionally, all members of the Executive Committee must not have been previously convicted or sentenced for any criminal offence and must be at least 40 years old.

ZIFA Elective Ordinary Congress Date Set

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has expressed satisfaction with the amended ZIFA constitution, which was adopted at a FIFA-supervised meeting of ZIFA’s Congress on October 18.
The Congress voted 48-8 in favour of the amendments, marking a significant step forward in addressing long-standing issues within Zimbabwean football.
FIFA and CAF delegates attending the meeting commended the Congress for its renewed commitment to reforming the country’s football governance, particularly in relation to a constitution that had not been updated in over a decade.
After the ZIFA Congress ratified the amendments, the amended constitution was sent to the SRC for registration, in line with Section 29 of the Sport and Recreation Act.
The SRC’s legal team reviewed the constitution and gave their approval, allowing ZIFA to proceed with registering the document with FIFA.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/src-call-for-integrity-in-zifa-elections">The Sunday Mail</a>, SRC board chairperson Gerald Mlotshwa commended the Normalisation Committee led by Lincoln Mutasa for establishing an ethics and integrity committee that will assess the eligibility of candidates. Said Mlotshwa:

The new ZIFA Constitution has been registered by the SRC, in terms of its governing Act. New ZIFA elections will be conducted under its auspices and the watchful eyes of FIFA and CAF.
I am aware that ZIFA is in the process of putting together an ethics and integrity committee to vet prospective candidates.
The SRC does not vet candidates nor will it endorse any candidate. That is a matter for the football community within ZIFA to decide without third-party interference or influence.
It is our fervent hope, as the SRC, that the composition of the ethics and integrity committee will encourage those very able former footballers, administrators and corporate leaders in our country to step up for what will, given the importance of football in Zimbabwe, be a national duty.

He urged ZIFA’s electoral college to choose leaders who are honest, and respectable and can ensure credibility and accountability for the association and the country’s biggest sports code. Said Mlotshwa:

We want to see selfless, hardworking and honest people at the helm of our sport.
Not shameless, self-centred, incompetent and divisive egotists, as has been the unfortunate case in the recent past.

During discussions on amending the ZIFA constitution, two key clauses drew huge interest. One stipulates that candidates for the ZIFA presidency and deputy positions must hold at least five Ordinary Level passes, while the other requires candidates to have been ordinarily resident in Zimbabwe for the past two years.
Under the amended constitution, the ZIFA executive, commonly known as the board, will now have 11 members, with one of the two vice presidents having to be a woman. Article 38.1 of the new constitution reads:

Articles 38.4 to 38.8 outline additional criteria for individuals aspiring to be board members. These include a requirement that all members of the Executive Committee must not have been previously convicted or sentenced for any criminal offence.
Additionally, to be eligible for election as the president of the Executive Committee, a candidate must be at least 40 years old.
