Professor Eddie Mwenje, the chairperson of the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC), has stated that ZIMSEC examinations are still recognised internationally. He mentioned that countries like South Africa, Namibia, and Swaziland have shown interest in adopting these examinations. This news comes as some parents have been paying a lot of money to register their children for Cambridge examinations.
During an interview, Prof Mwenje stated that having Cambridge examinations in Zimbabwe demonstrates the country’s democratic nature and allows candidates to choose the exams they want to take. He emphasised that ZIMSEC is widely recognised within the region and regarded as an examination board of high esteem. He told <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/zimsec-boss-speaks-on-cambridge-examinations/">The Herald</a>:

ZIMSEC is internationally recognised that means in the region we are also very much appreciated as an examination board.
Cambridge is trying to extend its wings, its business as well for them and what is happening is now we have got schools, sometimes they have Cambridge and they may have ZIMSEC, I think that we are a national body and our aspects are to serve the Zimbabwean people.
We have had requests by regional countries wanting to write ZIMSEC, so that we offer examinations there. We have had requests even from people in the diaspora who are saying can you not offer these examinations externally? 
This shows the level of playing field that happens in a democratic society, some people come in, like Oxford can set up their centre here just like what they are doing in other countries and Cambridge University can set up its centre here.

Prof Mwenje reassured that the number of candidates taking ZIMSEC examinations has not declined due to the presence of Cambridge examinations. The statistics show that the number of candidates has remained steady over the years, with around 250,000 to 264,000 students taking the exams. In 2023, the number exceeded 270,000. He highlighted the credibility of ZIMSEC examinations, stating that the results are appreciated worldwide. Mwenje added:

Our students leave here and they go to Harvard University, Oxford and other universities overseas which shows that Zimsec is internationally recognised.

The credibility of ZIMSEC examinations has been affected by the leakage of exam papers and other factors. People have expressed doubt about the exams because some students have consistently achieved high grades. They question whether the exams are leaked or if they truly test the important topics they should cover. However, defenders of the education system argue that the high grades might be due to the easy access to information nowadays, especially through online platforms. In the past, information was only in hard copies and some remotely located schools did not have enough resources to support all learners.

South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, etc Interested In Adopting Our Examinations - ZIMSEC  Chair

Lozikeyi Primary School, located in Bulawayo’s Nguboyenja suburb, is facing criticism for withholding the final Grade 7 results of a high-achieving student, Thandeka Ncube. Thandeka scored a perfect six points in this year’s Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) exams. Instead of celebrating her success, her family is now concerned that she may not be able to enrol in Form One (the next level of education) because the school is withholding her results.
Bulawayo’s deputy mayor, Edwin Ndlovu, shared Thandeka’s situation in a residents’ WhatsApp group, seeking donations to help settle outstanding tuition fees and support her enrollment in Form One. Residents expressed their frustration with the school’s leadership, including the School Development Committee (SDC), for their lack of consideration and indifference towards Thandeka’s predicament. Many believe that the school’s actions could hinder her academic journey and prevent her from reaching her full potential.
Taungana Ndoro, the Director of Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education told <a href="https://cite.org.zw/lozikeyi-school-withholds-whizkids-grade-7-results-over-outstanding-fees/">CITE</a> that no school is permitted to withhold Grade 7 results for any reason and advised affected candidates to seek recourse at the District office. He is quoted as saying:

No school is allowed to withhold Grade 7 results for whatever reason. The affected candidates should approach the District office immediately for recourse.

Although the practice of withholding results over unpaid fees is against government policy, the government often fails to address the issue, forcing parents and guardians to enter into payment plans with schools to secure their children’s results. An anonymous law expert told CITE that if this fails, legal action against the school and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education may be pursued, although this can be a lengthy process that hampers the student’s academic pursuits.
Schools sometimes justify withholding exam results by claiming that the fees they collect are necessary for running the school smoothly. They believe that by holding back results, parents and guardians will be motivated to pay their outstanding fees. However, parents and guardians argue that the current economic situation makes it challenging for them to pay the fees on time.

Bulawayo School Criticised For Withholding High-achieving Student's Results Over Fees

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) has issued Circular 18 of 2023, which allows Grade 7 students to leave school after completing their ZIMSEC exams. The circular which cancels Circular 17 of 2023, also allows planned and budgeted school trips to proceed as planned.
The circular seen by Pindula News was addressed to various education authorities and organizations, including Chief Directors, Provincial Education Directors, Teachers’ Organizations, and others involved in the education sector. It read:

RE: CANCELLATION OF SECRETARY’S CIRCULAR NUMBER 17 OF 2023 ON COMPULSORY ORGANISED LEARNING FOR PREPARING GRADE 7 PUPILS FOR THE PRIMARY TO SECONDARY TRANSITION
This Circular cancels Circular Number 17 of 2023 on compulsory organised learning activities post-Grade 7 examinations. The cancellation, therefore, means that Grade 7 pupils must be allowed to close school. Those schools that had planned and budgeted for educational school trips should proceed as such in conformity with Circular P.54.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has reversed a directive that required Grade Seven students to stay in school after their exams. The directive stated that the students were supposed to attend classes until the end of the school term. Authorities said this decision was made to address concerns about students having excessive free time, which could lead to issues like drug abuse and teenage pregnancies. The ministry said it aims to provide a structured learning environment and prevent negative behaviours during the post-exam period.

Grade 7 Learners Now Allowed To Leave School After Exams - Ministry

The start of the 2023 ordinary level (O-Level) examination calendar was disrupted by delays in distributing materials to exam centres putting the Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) in the spotlight once again.
ZIMSEC attempted to prevent leaks by delivering the materials on the same day as the exam. However, in Mashonaland West province, some schools and colleges received the materials late, causing delays and anxiety for candidates. At Chinhoyi High School and Victoria College, the ‘O’ Level English Paper 1 exams started later than scheduled, but candidates were allowed to complete them within the designated time frames, according to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/zimsec-o-level-exams-sittings-delayed-by-nearly-2-hours-as-2023-session-gets-to-a-shambolic-start/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>. A candidate at Victoria College was cited as saying:

Sitting for the English Paper 1 was delayed by nearly two hours as we only started writing around 1545 hours. The unfortunate situation caused panic and unnecessary anxiety among candidates which might affect results.
It is our hope ZIMSEC puts its house in order and avoid a repeat of delays.

Delays in distributing exam materials were also reported in Mashonaland West province and other regions. Concerns were raised by parents and teachers about the impact of these delays on the quality of students’ results and the credibility of ZIMSEC’s exam administration.
The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) criticised ZIMSEC for corrupt practices in centralising the procurement of exam materials, leading to a one-month delay in practical exams. The union posted on X formerly Twitter:

In a desperate bid to cash in on procurement of examination materials,@zimsecOFFICIAL centralised procurement of all materials for science practicals. Same way procurement of sanitary pads was centralised. Now they can’t supply the materials and exams have to be postponed.

The ‘O’ Level Combined Science Practical Examination has been postponed by over a month due to logistical issues. A circular from ZIMSEC states that the exam, originally scheduled for October 19, 2023, will now take place on November 29, 2023. Examination center heads are instructed to inform the candidates to ensure that no one misses the exam.
ZIMSEC has a history of controversy during this time of year, including exam delays and leaks. Teachers’ unions attribute these issues to structural and ethical problems within ZIMSEC. Examination registration fees during that window are pegged according to the normal registration. 
The Interbank rate which shall apply when making payments for the 2023 November Ordinary and Advanced level Examination Fees in ZWL during the registration Mop up window is ZWL 1207 to 1 USD. Payments for the examination fees should nut be paid directly into ZIMSEC accounts by individual parents. Candidates/ Parents should make payments to the school or centre of registration for forward remission to ZIMSEC.
 ZIMSEC continues to accept fee payments in the currency the guardians/ parents paid. Centres are therefore reminded. that remittances to ZIMSEC should be made in the currency paid by parents.

ZIMSEC Sets Interbank Rate For Exam Fees In ZWL

Form 6 Student Gets 50 Points In A Level ZIMSEC Exams (Redirect)

A Zimbabwean social scientist has said it is not necessary for learners to do more than three (3) subjects at Advanced Level (A-Level) adding that there is a need to advise learners on the right combinations.
Dr Hillary Jephat Musarurwa’s remarks after a <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/form-6-students-gets-10as-in-zimsec-exams/">form six student scored 50 points (10 As)</a> in the November 2022 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) examinations. He said:

I have always argued that it’s not necessary to do more than 3 subjects at A Level. May the kids be correctly advised on the right combination and number of subjects to take.
</blockquote>
Musarurwa who holds a DPhil in Public Administration – Peace Studies from the Durban University of Technology, said schools were now encouraging their learners to do more than three subjects for prestige. He said:

Prestige amongst school heads. They want to brag on having the most number of As.

A message from an unidentified official at the University of Zimbabwe’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences was in support of Dr Musarurwa’s reasoning. Read the message:

Good evening legends. Apologies I am behind on chats but I saw this conversation which I thot of responding to.
UZ does not discriminate against schools, especially the faculty of medicine which I have been part of since 2008. It’s unfortunate that many students who do more than 3 subjects at A level end up including irrelevant subjects to our entry requirements. 
Our requirements are A level passes in Chemistry and any 2 subjects between Maths, Physics, Biology/ Zoology. So besides Chemistry, we count the other best 2 subjects, thus we only consider 3 subjects. So if one does 5 subjects and gets all A’s and a D (2 points) in Chemistry, we don’t see it as 22 points but as 12 points because we consider chemistry first and any other best 2 from the above list. 
So the message is, don’t force your bright students/ children to take up many subjects if they intend to do medicine. This does not increase their chances. Let them concentrate and maximise their efforts on 3 relevant subjects only. In addition, we don’t count mathematics together with Further Maths or Applied Maths/ Pure Maths…. etc, we just consider Maths as 1 one subject. So it’s of no benefit sitting for exams of all variants of maths.
Our intake is about 300/ yr for medicine. If we have a high number of potential students (which has been the case since 2014) we conduct interviews. The interview instrument is to weed out potential delinquencies and those who would have been pushed to do medicine by their parents/ guardians when they don’t really intend to by themselves. We also look at communication skills. This is where some students fall off. Some schools concentrate on bookwork but they don’t groom their students.

Others who commented on the matter believed there are many more opportunities created by doing more than 3 subjects, “beyond medicine at UZ.”
Another one said in times like these, learners probably should be doing as much allowing them to change their minds even after qualifying for medicine to follow a more artsy route. They said specialising so early in their journey of learning is probably risky.

Form 6 Student Gets 10As In A Level ZIMSEC Exams

Four men from Chipinge have been sentenced to eight months in prison each for selling leaked ZIMSEC examination papers to prospective candidates across the country.
Ashard Sibiya aged 22 and Brian Kossam (22) had their sentences wholly suspended on the condition of good behaviour, while Tazwa Zibuke (22) and Musuthu Sithole (21)’s sentences were commuted to 108 hours of community service.
The four pleaded guilty to selling and circulating the November ZIMSEC Maths Ordinary level paper 1 and 2, Advanced level Mathematics Paper 2, and Advanced level Accounts paper 2 and 3, <a href="https://zbcnews.co.zw/2022/11/23/eight-months-jail-sentence-for-leaking-zimsec-papers/">ZBC News</a> reported.
It is not clear how they got the papers.
Earlier this month, the same court sentenced three Gaza High School students; Takudzwa Muboera aged 19 and Thabo Sigauke (17) to community service after they pleaded guilty to selling leaked examination papers and fraud.
The trio was charging at least ZWL$20 000 per paper which was paid into their Ecocash accounts. 
Meanwhile, ZIMSEC says candidates who had pre-access to question papers continue to be identified and in line with the ZIMSEC Act, Section 34, will have examination results cancelled. 
Examination papers have been leaking over the years raising questions about the integrity of the certificates and qualifications.

<h2>PRESS STATEMENT ON THE NOVEMBER 2022 EXAMINATION QUESTION PAPERS </h2>
The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) issued a statement on the 17th of October 2022, informing the nation that some candidates had been found to have had pre-access to some Ordinary Level Question Papers. Another statement was issued on the 20th of October 2022 giving an update on the investigations into the matter at hand.
ZIMSEC wishes to give the following update to the nation and our stakeholders. 
1. Candidates who had pre-access to question papers at different examination centres were identified. As a result of the investigations some candidates, examination administrators, and members of the public have been arrested and have appealed before the courts. 
2. Examination centre administrators who were the source of the leakage were apprehended together with their distribution networks. 
3. The Investigation team has arrested a man who fraudulently registered a SIM Card line in the name of ZIMSEC Mutare. Masquerading as a ZIMSEC official, he was found selling fake certificates and some question papers. 
4. The Police Forensic Unit is currently tracing all Candidates who shared the Question Papers on various social media platforms, including WhatsApp and Telegram. More candidates have been apprehended and arraigned before the courts. The law has and is taking its course. 
5. In light of the above cases and sources identified during these investigations, ZIMSEC has gone further in tightening security wherever question papers are, in transit and in custody, pending the writing of the examinations. Investigation teams remain on the ground and vigilant to weed out any residual unscrupulous elements within and without the chain. 
6. Candidates who had pre-access to question papers continue to be identified and in line with the ZIMSEC Act, Section 34. will have examination results cancelled.

ZIMSEC Gives Update On November 2022 Examinations

Over 100 learners have been arrested for allegedly sharing a leaked Ordinary Level <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zimsec-speaks-on-the-leaked-o-level-mathematics-paper-1/">Mathematics Paper 1 exam</a> which they sat a fortnight ago.
Investigators have also arrested an undisclosed number of school and exam officials allegedly involved in leaking the paper, <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/109-exam-cheats-nabbed">The Sunday Mail</a> reported citing national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Paul_Nyathi">Paul Nyathi.</a>
 Authorities are investigating 28 reported cases of exam malpractices linked to the Mathematics paper, according to Nyathi. He said:

Police have arrested 109 pupils for allegedly leaking the Ordinary Level Mathematics Paper One.
The number of cases linked to that paper has risen from 11 to 28 nationwide.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police will ensure that arrests are effected on anyone who is illegally circulating examination papers on social media and physically to the public.

Meanwhile, the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_School_Examinations_Council">Zimbabwe School Examinations Council’s (ZMSEC)</a> spokesperson Ms Nicholette Dlamini said the ZIMSEC Act would be amended to provide for harsh penalties for exam malpractices. She told The Sunday Mail:

The Zimsec Act will be amended so that we have harsh penalties for illegal access to exam papers, aside from just cancelling the exams.
This includes having additional punitive measures, for example, having the particular learner’s examination results annulled.
Those involved in malpractices will have all their results cancelled and the amended Zimsec Act will have harsh sentences for culprits, apart from cancellation of exams.
Some candidates had access to the Mathematics Paper One earlier, and investigations are still ongoing. Once they have been concluded, we will announce the course of action to be taken.

The Act currently provides for a Level 7 fine or imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year for malpractices such as revealing the contents of an exam to unauthorised persons, unlawful access to an exam and impersonating a candidate.

UPDATE: Over 100 Learners Arrested Over Leaked Exam Paper

A <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_School_Examinations_Council">ZIMSEC</a> examinations clerk and a bursar at Kambuzuma High 1 School in Harare appeared in court on allegations of forging an Ordinary Level results certificate.
Donald Taremeredzwa Muchawo reportedly wanted to forge the certificate for an applicant who wanted to undergo police training at Ntabazinduna Training Depot.
Muchawo appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court together with Clifford Matumbu facing fraud charges, <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/zimsec-staffer-kambuzuma-high-1-school-bursar-busted-for-fraud/">The Herald</a> reported.
The duo is jointly charged with Lorraine Tanyaradzwa Mushauripo, William Chikumbirike, Obert Chirape and Morgen Chitaike on fraud charges.
<h2>Allegations:</h2>
Prosecutor Mrs Martha Mookoto told the court that on April 18 2022, police advertised for recruitment and Mushauripo got interested but had three Ordinary Level passes in Geography, History and Commerce.
Police were looking for people with five ‘O’ levels including English Language and Mathematics.
Mushauripo approached Matumbu who offered to assist her by forging a certificate with all the required subjects. She then paid him some money.
The money exchanged hands amongst the six until it got to Muchawo, who was supposed to forge the certificate.
The six are expected back in court on October 17 when their trial is scheduled to start before magistrate Mrs Yeukai Dzuda.

ZIMSEC Official In Court For Forging An O' Level Certificate

The 2022 <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_School_Examinations_Council">Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC)</a> Grade seven examinations are set to begin on Monday next week.
ZIMSEC public relations officer Nicky Dhlamini says it’s all systems go. Dhlamini told <a href="https://www.zbcnews.co.zw/all-systems-go-for-grade-7-examinations/">ZBC News</a>:

As school examinations council we have finished all the preparations. We have also distributed the papers to their respective centers and this year we expect results to be out on time.
</blockquote>
Schools which spoke to ZBC News said they were ready for the examinations.
Meanwhile, candidates who are writing Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations will begin their practicals on Monday next week, while written examinations will get underway next month.
In a related matter, President Emmerson Mnangagwa Monday told the United Nations that the government will progressively provide universal, free and compulsory basic education with effect from next year. 
He made the remarks in a virtual presentation at the High-Level Summit on Transforming Education at the ongoing United Nations General Assembly.

ZIMSEC Timetables For Grade 7, O' Level And A' Level

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has announced the approval of the 2022 Examination Registration fees which the council said can be paid in foreign currency or Zimbabwe dollars. In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZIMSEC the government will be subsidising school fees for learners in public schools, local authority schools and not-for-profit mission schools. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council would like to inform its valued stakeholders of the gazetted examination registration fees for the November 2022 examinations. The Government will be subsidizing examination fees by 55 % for candidates in Public schools, Local Authority schools and not-for-profit Mission Schools.
All candidates in private schools and colleges, including private candidates in Public schools will pay the full cost of the examination fees. The 2022 examination fires are pegged against the USD however, Parents and Guardians are advised to pay the fees at the prevailing interbank rate, as at 22 July 2022, which will be communicated by ZIMSEC to all centres. Payments in USD are not to be made or accepted by school/centre heads. Parents and Guardians must make payments at their respective centres during the period of 22 July to 29 July 2022.

ZIMSEC 2022 November Exam Fees Gazetted

The 2021 November ZIMSEC Advanced Level (A’ Level) results are out, ZIMSEC board chairperson, Professor Eddie Mwenje has announced. 
In a statement, seen by Pindula News, Prof Mwenje said the results are accessible online on the ZIMSEC portal with effect from 6 pm on Tuesday. The collection of results will start Wednesday while the Portal will be open for 5 days only. We present the statement below:

<h2>RE: RELEASE OF NOVEMBER 2021 ADVANCED LEVEL EXAMINATION RESULTS</h2>
Introduction The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council Board and Management would like to advise the nation of the release of the 2021 November Advanced Level examination results which were written between 1 December 2021 and 31 January 2022. Heads of Examination Centres will be able to collect the results for their respective schools/centres from our Regional Offices on Wednesday, 6 April 2022. The Advanced Level Examination results, will be accessible online to all Candidates and authorised personnel with effect from today the 5th April, 2022 beginning at 18:00 hrs. The results can be accessed online through the ZIMSEC portal. As usual, our Website address is www.zimsec.co.zw. Candidates are advised to click on their respective region where they will be redirected to the portal on which they can access their results. Please take note that this portal will be open for 5 days only.
Allow me from the onset to express on behalf of the Board our profound appreciation to all major stakeholders of the examination process for a timely delivery. The examination process ended on 3151 January and after 2 months, the results are here. Zimsec wishes to acknowledge the commitment of our examiners, the support given by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, the Ministry of Health and Child Care and our parent Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and indeed our ZIMSEC Staff. We are therefore excited that we are releasing the results earlier than was the case for the 2020 results by at least 3 weeks. We are also grateful to God that as we continue to see an improvement in the covid-19 pandemic situation, it may point to the fact that we may soon return to normalcy.
Entry and Pass Rate There was a decrease of 2.03% in the candidate entries where the total number of candidates who sat for the November 2021 examinations was 49 128, as compared to 50 287 in November 2020.
Of these, 48 234 wrote 2 or more subjects compared to 49 153 last year. For those who wrote two or more subjects, 40 842 obtained Grade E or better. This translates to 84.67% pass rate. 
In November 2020 however, 49 153 wrote two or more subjects and 39 802 obtained Grade E or better in two or more subjects translating to a percentage pass rate of 80.98. The national pass rate for2021. therefore, increased by 3.68%.
<h2>School Candidates</h2>
The total number of school candidates in November 2021 was 40 806. Of these, 40 599 wrote 2 or more subjects and 35 276 obtained Grade E or better yielding a percentage pass rate of 86.89. In comparison, 42 231 school candidates sat in November 2020, with 41 691 writing two or more subjects and 34 597 obtaining Grade E or better, yielding a percentage pass rate of 82.98. This translates to a percentage increase of 3.99 in 2021.
<h2>Gender</h2>
The total number of female school candidates who sat for 2 or more subjects in November 2021 Advanced level examinations was 20 262. Of this number, 18 043 passed two or more subjects yielding 89.04% pass rate; an increase of 3.24 percentage points from 85.8% for 2020. The total number of male school candidates who sat for two or more subjects were 20 337 and 17 233 passed two or more subjects, which translates to 84.72%, an increase of 4.61 percentage points from 80.31% for 2020
<h2>Private Candidates </h2>
In November 2021, the total number of private candidates was 8 322. Of these, 7 725, wrote two or more subjects and 5 566 obtained a Grade E or better, which translated to a percentage pass rate of 72.05%, while in November 2020, the total number of private candidates was 8 056. Out of this number, 7 462 wrote two or more subjects and 5 205 obtained a Grade E or better, which also translated into a percentage pass rate of 69.75%.
<h2>Special Needs Candidates</h2>
The total number of special needs candidates who sat for the November 2021, Advanced level examinations was 56 and 54 passed 2 or more subjects yielding a percentage pass rate of 96.42%. The candidates were in 4 different categories namely; Enlarged Print, Braille, Hearing Impairment and Physical Impairment.

ZIMSEC A Level Results Now Out

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) says it is targeting to finish marking of O and A- Level examinations this week, with results expected to be released shortly after.
This comes after the examinations body is settling outstanding allowances for markers who had embarked on industrial action over delays in payments.
The Sunday Mail reports that markers have since resumed their duties and are now working round the clock to conclude the exercise.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail, ZIMSEC spokesperson Ms Nicky Dhlamini said despite delays, the release of results is still within schedule, thereby giving forthcoming Lower Six pupils enough learning time before the first term ends. Dhlamini said:

Marking is going on well. Examiners at various marking venues are rounding up and we hope to conclude in the next week (this week). Processes thereafter to produce results will determine the date of the release of results.
The payment of markers has been processed and all outstanding allowances are being settled in accordance with timeliness set in the contracts. 
As ZIMSEC we do not determine the school calendar but we will be releasing results as scheduled.
</blockquote>
Ms Dhlamini also dismissed media reports which suggested that markers were working under protest. 
The secretary-general for the Zimbabwe Schools Development Committees, Mr Everisto Jongwe, urged Zimsec to quickly conclude the marking of exams, saying the late release of results puts extra pressure on parents.
The exams, which traditionally end in early December or late November, were completed in late January this year.

ZIMSEC Sets Deadline For Marking O And A' Level Exams

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_School_Examinations_Council">Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC)</a> has introduced new Zimbabwe General Certificate of Education certificates for Ordinary and Advanced Levels in line with global assessment trends.
The first batch of the new certificates has been rolled out this month, with the issuance of the November 2020 certificates.
In a statement yesterday, Zimsec said the introduction of the new ZGCE certificates was important and progressive. Said ZIMSEC:

This will improve the security and safeguard the integrity of the certificates and qualifications through the new advanced security features which have been included.
Zimsec offers a facility where certificates can be verified for authenticity to curb fraudulent qualifications being presented to institutions by applicants.
Stakeholders are encouraged to make use of this service as a way of maintaining credibility of their workforce or student bodies.
</blockquote>
The examinations board added that all ZIMSEC certificates issued prior to 2020 remain valid for use both locally and internationally.

ZIMSEC Has Introduced New Certificates

Teachers who marked 2021 Grade Seven examinations are still to get their allowances despite promises by the Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) to pay them with speed.
The examinations were written in December and the marking ended on January 20 this year.
Examiners who spoke to <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/zimsec-fails-to-pay-grade-seven-examiners/">Newzimbabwe.com</a> said (ZIMSEC) had promised to pay the teachers as soon as they finished marking the examinations.
Each teacher was supposed to be paid ZW$15 per script.
Approximately, each person was supposed to mark about 500 scripts. One examiner told<a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/zimsec-fails-to-pay-grade-seven-examiners/"> NewZimbabwe.com:</a>
<blockquote>
ZIMSEC only paid us our allowances which amounted to ZW$46 000 RTGS. As for the actual marking, we have not been paid anything so far. This money is very little, and we do not know why ZIMSEC is taking so long to pay so little.
</blockquote>
Another examiner said ZIMSEC had breached the payment contract which stated that they were supposed to have been paid upon completion of marking. Added the examiner:

We worked under very difficult conditions and some of us sacrificed our lives by accepting to mark the examinations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
</blockquote>
Early this month, the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Progressive_Teachers_Union_of_Zimbabwe">Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ)</a> alleged that teachers who marked the examinations will be paid <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/02/01/this-is-nonsense-teachers-comment-on-allowances-paid-to-zimsec-examination-markers/">$16 500 for 14 marking days.</a> The union described the figure as paltry and an insult to the teaching profession. 
Meanwhile, the results were released on the 4th of February.

ZIMSEC Yet To Pay Grade 7 Examinations Markers

The Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZMSEC) has said results for the 2021 Grade 7 examinations are not yet out contrary to social media reports.
A WhatsApp message circulating on social media appeared to have fooled two radio stations – CapiTalk and StarFM – which had to run retractions on Wednesday.
ZIMSEC said marking ended early this week, and there were some processes to follow that would delay the release of the results by at least another week.
ZIMSEC spokesperson Nicky Dhlamini told ZimLive on Thursday:

The results are not yet out. We have to ask parents and pupils to be slightly patient with us.
As you will recall, exams ended a week before Christmas and marking only started after the New Year. We have not taken more time than previous years, it’s just that the sitting of the exams and the marking started late, compared to prior years.
Marking may have ended this week but that’s not the end. Now we are engaged in the process of grading the marks awarded by the markers, and then we will release the results. That’s a week at least.

Dhlamini said Continuous Assessment Learning Activity (CALA) outcomes were being added to the final marks for the first time, adding new workloads.

Grade 7 Results Not Yet Out- ZIMSEC

A 2020 O-Level student, Ashley Mutandwa, has written to the Zimbabwe School Examination Council (Zimsec) demanding the release of her results seized on allegations of examination cheating.
Zimsec withheld Mutandwa’s examination results claiming that she illegally accessed the November 2020 Mathematics paper 2 question paper before entering the examination room at Intellect College in Norton.
Through her lawyer, Alex Majachani, Mutandwa has written to ZIMSEC in a letter dated June 21 also copied to Intellect College, Mashonaland West provincial director, district school’s inspector and Mashonaland West Zimsec regional manager, denying the allegations levelled against her. Reads part of the letter:

I am writing this letter deeply moved and disturbed by the determination you took to withhold my Mathematics O-Level results.
I strongly reject and refuse totally the allegations you are levelling against me. I did not see or have access to the alleged Mathematics paper which was circulating on social media.
</blockquote>
<blockquote>
I set the examination on the date of her burial and I was heavily depleted, but did write the examination as a fulfilment.
The outstanding performance in paper 2, written on December 10 2020, is a result of me gaining my strength, motivation a week after the loss. The performance exhibited in the paper is complementary to my few revision tests.
My presentation and workings in the exam is clear testimony that I did not cheat, but had prepared thoroughly. I absolutely pronounce that I did not breach the Zimsec Act section 34, subsection 1 and paragraph C of 1994. May your board reconsider its determination and release my results.
</blockquote>
She said she performed badly in her Mathematics paper 1 because she wrote the examination grieving over the loss of her neighbour, Gogo Gava Rusariya Tapererwa, who was buried the same day.
Mutandwa also wrote to Zimsec assistant director identified as Mashingaidze, demanding the release of the results.

Student Writes To ZIMSEC Demanding Release Of Seized Results

The government has been urged to declare the 2020 academic year null and void on the basis that studies were disturbed by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
Studies were suspended in March when the country recorded its first coronavirus case and learners have since then not been able to return to schools with teachers’ unions arguing that measures to prevent the transmission of the virus had not been put in place in schools.
Speaking to Daily News on Sunday, former Churchill High School principal Levy Hombarume said the 2020 academic year was gone. He said:
<blockquote>If one considers the time left now, a lot has been lost by learners that even if we were to reopen, which teacher would be able to cover the syllabus in a manner that will enable learners to take an examination? Will the Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) set the examination only for the part of the syllabus that was covered up to the time schools were closed? I find it impossible hence it is my opinion that the calendar year be voided.</blockquote>
His remarks were echoed by the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) secretary-general Raymond Majongwe who said authorities should use the break to address challenges in the education sector.

"Pretend The 2020 Academic Year Never Happened," Govt Told

Reports have suggested that <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/01/15/schools-reportedly-hacking-zimsec-site-to-prevent-students-from-viewing-results-online/">Schools and Examination centres are hacking some students’ accounts to bar them from accessing their results online.</a>
This is reportedly done to force students to clear their fees arrears and all schools need to do is just create an account in the name of the student. When the student tries to create an account they will be told the account already exists.
Meanwhile, one can bypass that and can still access results and below we provide the steps one needs to take.

Here Is How To Access ZIMSEC Results Online Even When Schools Have Hacked Your Account

Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) has released the 2019 Ordinary Level examination results.
The Council announced that the candidates recorded a 33.9 % pass rate adding that results can be collected from respective examination centres from Thursday 23 January 2020.
The results can also be accessed online via the links on <a href="https://dcmv1.zimsec.co.zw/">the ZIMSEC website homepage</a> as from 6 pm today for a window period of seven days.

ZIMSEC November O Level Results Out, View Them Online

Reports have suggested that <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/schools-reportedly-hacking-zimsec-site-to-prevent-students-from-viewing-results-online/">Schools and Examination centres are hacking some students accounts to bar them from accessing their results online.</a>
This is reportedly done to force students to clear their fees arrears and all schools need to do is just create an account in the name of the student. When the student tries to create an account they will be told the account already exists.
Meanwhile, one can bypass that and can still access results and below we provide the steps one needs to take.

Here Is How To Access ZIMSEC Results Even When Schools Have Hacked Your Account

Four teachers from Chingele Secondary School in Chiredzi have been suspended after it had been disclosed that they wrote ZIMSEC examinations for their wives and or girlfriends.
The development was confirmed by ZIMSEC spokesperson, Nicky Dlamini who said that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, through the Public Service Commission suspended the four teachers. He said:
<blockquote>Four teachers (head, deputy and two senior teachers) were involved in improper association with schoolchildren and former schoolchildren. These four were writing examinations for the eight candidates while one teacher was writing for his second wife. Combined Science paper 3 ( practical paper) examination was written in more than two hours and no proper supervision was in place, and candidates were even discussing answers in the examination.</blockquote>
The suspended are school head Mike Maluleke, his deputy Checkson Tsumele, mathematics teacher Roddington Sithole and English teacher Misheck Mahungu.
Dlamini also said that nine candidates will have all their results for the November session nullified as per the provisions of the Zimsec policy and combined science results for the whole school have also been cancelled.
ZIMSEC has over the years experienced the leakage of examination papers prompting some to doubt the credibility, validity and reliability of the results.

Four Teachers Suspended For Writing ZIMSEC Examinations For Their Wives And Girlfriends

Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council clerk, Edisendi Muzira appeared in court on Thursday facing allegations of smuggling an October-November Economics Paper 3 from the printing press and selling it.
Muzira appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Richard Ramaboa who adjourned the matter to January 14 for trial after the State said it had amended the charges.
The state alleges that sometime in October 2019, Muzira was assigned to the Norton Printing Press and his duties included packaging of printed October-November 2019 session O and A-Level examination papers.
It further alleges that Muzira then took a copy of the Economics examination Paper 3 which his son sold for US$50. The court heard:
<blockquote>It is alleged that Muzira’s son also photographed the examination question paper and used his WhatsApp platform to send a soft copy to Nigel Dengeza in Chitungwiza after he was paid a fee.</blockquote>
The court also heard that the paper went viral in most parts of the country, and was accessed by many candidates some of which have already appeared in court over the matter.
ZIMSEC has also confirmed that the paper which circulated resembles a true copy of the original one.

ZIMSEC Clerk Appears In Court For Leaking An Exam Paper

Students sitting for the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) Ordinary and Advanced Level exams in November will get a final mark that will be computed using a practical and examination mark.
This was said by ZIMSEC public relations manager Ms Nicky Dlamini. Said Dlamini:
<blockquote>Last year candidates wrote ordinary exams that constituted a 100 percent mark. However, this year they will be doing projects that will supplement their examinations. Informal students will also do their projects if they decide to sit for the November examinations.</blockquote>
