Parents and guardians have been urged to openly discuss career choices with their children rather than choosing career paths for them.
The call was made by Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) board chairperson, Raymond Mawerera while speaking at a prize-giving day at Lady Ereneta International High School.
Mawerera advised learners to consider a career in the tourism sector such as tourism management, hospitality, transport, and food and beverages. <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/let-your-kids-decide-career-paths-parents-urged/">He said</a>:

I am sure parents have heard the stories of children who pursued academic careers that their parents, but not themselves, wanted.
An uninspiring story that keeps doing the rounds is about a young man who spent seven years at medical school and, soon after his graduation party, he handed over his certificate to his father and said “dad, here is your degree, now I am going to do what I want” and proceeded to join a music band.
I do not want to be misunderstood. I am not saying do not get involved in your child’s career choice, but I am only urging us, as parents, to create an atmosphere in our homes in which we can sit down with our sons and daughters and discuss openly where they want their lives to go.
Our children are products of what they learn and experience and this is mostly at home and at school, where they spend the bulk of their time.

Choosing a career can be a challenging and overwhelming process but life coaches generally agree that it is crucial for one to assess their interests, skills, values, and personality before making a choice.

Parents Urged To Allow Kids To Decide Career Paths

The 2023 edition of the Sanganai Hlanganani World Tourism Expo, which is Zimbabwe’s premier international tourism showcase, is set to take place from 12 to 14 October in Bulawayo.
The annual event brings together key players and stakeholders in the global tourism industry, providing a platform for networking, collaboration, and showcasing the best of Zimbabwe’s rich tourism potential.
Sanganai Hlanganani World Tourism Expo is organised by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry.
ZTA’s Chief Executive Officer, Winnie Muchanyuka expressed her excitement about the upcoming event, saying:

The 2023 edition of Sanganai Hlanganani World Tourism will beam the light on tourism and place the entire travel and tourism on center stage.
We look forward to showcasing the beauty, heritage, and hospitality of our country, and promoting Zimbabwe as an irresistible destination for travellers looking to experience authentic African tourism.
… An exciting array of activities awaits participants. These will include business-to-business meetings for industry players and buyers.
A Tourism investment forum will be held to showcase opportunities that are available to potential tourism sector investors.
The aviation sector will also converge to talk about various issues affecting the aviation sector.
A career guidance session will be held for the upcoming tourism leaders.
Buyers will take up the usual destination site visits in the different locations across the destination to get an understanding of the country’s incredible tourist attractions.

Muchanyuka urged upcoming tourism players who have difficulties in accessing the market to come and register as exhibitors at the Sanganai Hlanganani World Tourism Expo.

Sanganai Hlanganani World Tourism Expo 2023 Set For October

<blockquote>The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority has it from authoritative sources that reports circulating in certain sections of the social media purporting that police are authorised to stop and search people for foreign currency are untrue and should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve.
The legal tender shall be the Zimbabwe Dollar in both cash and electronic format.
Any freely convertible foreign currencies remain acceptable in Zimbabwe as follows:
1. Credit Cards are readily accepted everywhere in Zimbabwe where the relevant arrangements have been made with the International Credit Card Companies such as VISA, MASTERCARD and others issued by different banks in the countries of origin of the travellers.
Visitors are required to make the necessary arrangements with their banks before embarking on travel and when in the destination they need to look out for the logos of their respective credit cards.
Please note that terms and conditions of the respective credit cards will apply and transactions are subject to the limits given by the banks.
The service provider does have an international credit card enable Point-of-Sale (POS) Machines.
2. Visitors may also withdraw local cash from international credit card enabled Automated Teller Machines (ATM’s) of the different banks.
These will be clearly marked international and will have the logos of the accepted credit card companies.
3. Foreign cash may be exchanged at the bank, bureau-de-change or any other authorised foreign currency dealers at the prevailing bank rates.
Visitors may then use the so acquired local currency to transact. Visitors are however encouraged to use plastic money and only exchange amounts of money in cash that they anticipate to use.
However, visitors may convert their money back to their foreign currency subject to prevailing terms and conditions. This may include proof in the prescribed format that one changed money upon their arrival.
4. Online payments and telegraphic transfers remain acceptable forms of payment in Zimbabwe.
5. Visa fees where applicable are payable in foreign currency and may be paid in cash at any port of entry.
The Government of Zimbabwe has an e-visa system and intending travellers may apply and pay for their visas online.
6. Tipping is not a commercial transaction and hence visitors are at liberty to tip the way they want.
It becomes incumbent upon the recipient to ensure adherence to the foreign exchange regulations.</blockquote>

FULL TEXT: Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Reassures Visiting Tourists

NewZimbabwe.com reports that Zimbabwe will spend €1,95 million (US$2.3m) to host a group of high profile European soccer legends as part of the sports tourism initiative to market the country as a safe destination.
Part of the memorandum of understanding seen by NewZimbabwe.com states that Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive Karikoga Kaseke will pay the European soccer legends € 1.95 million. Part of the MoU signed between Kaseke (Party A) and World Class Legends chief operating officer Rayco Garcia (Party B) reads:
<blockquote>To facilitate in the payment of the match fees of € 1.95 million to Party A.
The payment shall be made at least 15 days before the June 2018 match
Party B will retain all revenue proceeds from match marketing, sponsorship, sale of television rights, gate collections and any other source of revenue generated from the direct or indirect marketing of the match.</blockquote>

Zim Spends US$2.3 Million Hosting Ryan Giggs, European Soccer Legends

A report by the parliamentary committee on the tourism and hospitality industry noted that Zimbabwe is struggling to attract tourists from Western countries, with a lot of the tourists preferring regional alternatives, especially South Africa. The report also noted that the “Look East Policy” was not yielding the required results when it comes to tourism.
Part of the report from the committee reads:
<blockquote>The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority is being outcompeted in destination market penetration by regional competitors, especially South Africa which attracted 794,073 European arrivals against a figure of 107,108 for Zimbabwe in 2015.
The gap widened for 2016 where South Africa recorded 920,706 arrivals against 97,383 for Zimbabwe.</blockquote>
