"Gerald Mlotshwa, Karen Mutasa To Blame For FIFA Ban"

Journalist Stanley Gama, who is a former editor of the Daily News, says SRC chairperson Gerald Mlotshwa and some board members are to blame for the suspension of Zimbabwe from international football by FIFA over a year ago.

Zimbabwe was suspended by FIFA in February last year for third-party interference, after the SRC suspended the ZIFA executive, led by Felton Kamambo, for a number of allegations, among them, failure to account for public funds and sexual harassment of female referees.

On Monday, 10 July, FIFA lifted the suspension on Zimbabwe and appointed a normalisation committee.

Gama said Mlotshwa failed to learn from his past mistake when SRC was forced to reinstate the Zimbabwe Cricket Board after the country was banned by the International Cricket Council. Said Gama:

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) led by [President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s] son-in-law Gerald Mlotshwa and the likes of [Karen Mutasa], wife to businessman Shingi Mutasa is to blame for Zimbabwe’s long isolation from football because of their shambolic and unwise decision to suspend the ZIFA Board.

Admittedly, the Felton Kamambo board was the worst in living memory, but for SRC to take the foolish decision to suspend them was obviously going to attract serious action from FIFA who don’t take kindly to political interference in football. SRC is a government arm…

The truth is the SRC is made up of politically connected and well-up people who follow elitist sports like polo and who do not understand football at all.

They don’t understand the pain of a township boy/girl missing out on international football. Mlotshwa does not learn.

He suspended the Zimbabwe Cricket Board and the ICC suspended Zimbabwe. They were only reinstated after the SRC lifted the suspension.

The SRC suspended the ZC board in June 2019 over allegations of electoral malpractices and financial misappropriation in a move that was deemed as “government interference” by the ICC.

On 24 July, ICC wrote to SRC directing them to “unconditionally” reinstate the ousted board or risk termination of their membership.

The SRC reversed its decision after two Zimbabwean senior sides at the T20 World Cup qualifiers had already been replaced by Namibia and Nigeria.

The Kamambo board was a classic example of the epitomy of failure due to its self gratifying ego. Kudos to minister Coventry for her incisive operation of nipping the cancer in the bud. Now we can have a new beginning in our beloved game.

SRC should just have sat down with FIFA and chat the issues which were raised by various people and o believe paitwa solution without us being suspended. Even kamambo and co could have gone zviri simple. but our so called leaders prefer zvechimhondi zvavajaira. Phidza, Dube & co mismanaged zifa funds but SRC did nothing because vaive vanhu vawo veku Zanu

SRC should concentrate on renovating stadiums and stop trying to be the secretariat of every sport body.

Njere shoma dzinouraya tenzi nebasa. Gama is admitting Felton Kamambo led the worst ever Zifa board but goes on to say they should not have been suspended. This is crazy. These people were running down football and Gama says they should have been left untouched, complete madness. Fifa was aware of the allegations of maladminstration in Zifa and was not acting. Our teams are always eliminated in the qualifying stages with no victories to write home about. We don't have the facilities to prepare for international competitions, under this Zifa our national teams rarely had international friendlies to prepare for important matches and fifa never did anything about it. Look at the premier league and compare it with our neighbour's. Zifa needed fixing and some drastic action had to be taken to fix it. Gerald and his team did well to suspend Zifa board and force fifa to act. Weldone Gerald. I just hope the Normalization committee that has been set up will bring professionalism in the administration of our football. Boozers football in South Africa is better run than our premier league and national teams.

why do you still allow pilots who don't have enough knowledge on how to maintain the SRC plane up in the sky to be the ones incontrol, for the captain in charge is well know for bringing the plane to the runway only. Why not change pilots to fly the plan high above

We need a world-class high performance training center for our athletes.Sports is now a science. All the successful sports teams have world class training facilities.Zimbabwe must learn from South Africa. Sports starts at Universities,In South Africa, Stellenbosch,Turks,Witt's, and Potchefstroom universities all have strong Sporting systems. In Zimbabwe not even one university has an Olympic standard running track . The Govt needs to increase the sports budget, because we are behind other countries.Without money, it's all invain.

Fifa is ryt if we want to play international football we should adhere to international standards. It simply shows that the SRC does not really care about the careers of the ghetto youth and talents. The do not represent our vision as a football nation.

so you are supporting ****ual harassment @ the work place??? SRC was right,it was working within the laws of the republic, mind you SRC is a creation of Parliament . All it does is within the confines of the Constitution of Zimbabwe 🇿🇼. Minister Coventry is doing the right thing ,by appointing a normalisation committee FIFA is admitting that Zifa is in a mess.
Cde gabarinocheka · 1 year ago
If the allegations were true why asina kusungwa kamambo embezzlement of public funds ****ual harassment why wasn't he taken to court. Kirsty should have considered talking to Fifa concerning this issue before making a decision, iye akangonanga stret Kuna ED, ehe fifa inokuudzai kuty tambai ED football league...

you cant blame SRC for trying to put order to an errant child. ZIFA thru Kamambo and team were squarely to blame for the football messy in Zim.
Mdara Odza · 1 year ago
You are mad, what exactly happened at Zifa that had never happened before? Kamambo inherited a troubled house, it was not his fault that Zifa was in such a mess. SRC had no place to rein in Kamambo, that is why sanctions were imposed on Zimbabwean football as a result of SRC meddling. In the end, Kamambo and his board was reinstated and we lost about a year and half of international football. Bottomline, SRC was offside.

so is the reporter saying kunyengwa / abuse of female refrees kwanga kuri rite. SRC and the Ministry vakagona kuramba vakadzvanya ,Zim football has to be cleaned, sometimes journalists misinform and disinform the Public. By installing a normalisation committee FIFA is admitting that the Kamambo executive erred , The letter by FIFA shows that Zifa needs to be reformed, that's why minister Coventry said from the beginning normater how long it takes it will be worth it. The same issues raised by Ministry and SRC are also included in the FIFA report so which means it was okay for the authorities to have taken the hardest decision to suspend the Zifa board
