Cause of accident: Driver of commuter omnibus lost control and veered into a tree
Details
The accident involved a Chitungwiza-bound commuter omnibus veered off the road and hit a tree. The accident happened after Chinhamo fuel station along the Harare-Chitungwiza highway. According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the driver of the omnibus was speeding and trying to overtake when he lost control of the vehicle.[1] The accident claimed 6 lives on the spot while the other four died in hospital from the injuries sustained.
The bus was carrying a total of 11 passengers, including the driver and the conductor. The injured were ferried to Chitungwiza Hospital and bodies were taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary.The accident spot was said to have claimed the lives of many travellers. It is believed that before this tragic accident, a lot of accidents had occured around this spot.
