Kubi Chaza Indi is a Zimbabwean businesswoman, producer, actress, former model, and development activist. She appeared in many movies including Neria Live and Let Die (1973), Royal Flash (1975) and Toomorrow (1970). Kubi Chaza Indi is the Secretary-General of the Indigenous Business Women’s Organization who is active in issues affecting women. [1] Kubi Chaza shook the Zimbabwean entertainment scene in 1970’s by being the country’s very first actress/model to hit the international market.

She was born Kubi Chaza and later married actor John Indi.

Career

Chaza trained as a nurse in Scotland worked as a model in London and appeared in a James Bond film. Her modeling work soon caught the attention of film producers and her career took a critical turn. She became an actress, working with Hollywood legend Roger Moore in the 1973 Bond film Live And Let Live (in which she plays a saleswoman). After she got married to John Indi the couple decided to return to Zimbabwe in 1981. The couple then opened a hair salon in Machipisa, Highfield. She indicated that after opening the saloon she realized that there were no cosmetics for African Women.

“That is when I discovered there were no cosmetics that catered for black people, especially women. There was a huge demand for cosmetics for black women, [but] none were available,” says Chaza.“At first, it was not easy as some people felt that the name Kubi was not marketable for cosmetic products,” [2]

Kubi opened an industrial factory in Msasa, Harare, the House of Kubi produces popular products to for the beauty of the African woman. However, the company was affected by the economic changes in Zimbabwe that she eventually took her business to South Africa where her products are manufactured and distributed.
