Micheen Thornycroft is a Zimbabwean female rower. She participated at the 2012 Olympics and was part of the Zimbabwe 2016 Olympic Team. Thornycroft has been nominated for the Annual National Sports Award Sportswoman of the Year Award twice, in 2013 and in 2015 respectively.

Background

Micheen Thornycroft was born on 26 June 1987 in Harare.[1] She has an older sister Roseanne Thornycroft and a younger brother Patrick Thornycroft.[2]

Education

She did her primary education at Springvale House Preparatory School.[3] Thornycroft then attended Peterhouse Girls School[4]before attending Rhodes University in South Africa in 2003. While at Rhodes University she rowed in eights with her sister Roseanne.[2]

Career

She worked at a school in Pretoria teaching and coaching before resigning after qualifying for the 2012 Olympics and moved in temporarily in Harare with Rachel Davis who had coached her during her Peterhouse days. [2]

2012 London Olympics

Thornycroft qualified for the 2012 London Olympics after she became first in the women’s singles sculls at Africa’s Continental Qualification Regatta in Alexandria, Egypt in November 2011.[3]
