Shingi Kaondera is a former Zimbabwean international professional footballer. Kaondera is also former warriors striker and CAPS United player. Kaondera was formerly married to Mary Chiwenga, the wife of Zimbabwe Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

In July 2019, Kaondera sued Marry Chiwenga for US $700,000 over what he said had been a fraudulent divorce process years ago. Kaondera claimed that Chiwenga had forged divorce papers that had dissolved their marriage in 2010. [1]

Background

Shingi Kaondera was born on the 31st of July in 1982, in Seke Chitungwiza.

Football Career

Kaondera started his career at Wieslaw Grabowisk’s Darryn T in 1998 and between 1999 and 2002 played for Polish club Górnik Zabrze before signing for Cypriot First Division outfit AEP Paphos in 2005.

In 2005-2006, he played for the Turkish club Gaziantepspor before moving back to South Africa in 2007 where he joined Supersport United. In July 2007 he signed a two-year contract with the Cypriot club AEK Larnaca. However, in January 2008, he moved to Nea Salamina. Since then he changed from club to club in the small clubs of Cyprus leagues.[2]

Kaondera briefly joined the Warriors fold to help Zimbabwe qualify for the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt. However, clashes with the then national team coach, Charles Mhlauri, resulted in him being dropped from the Warrior squad.

Age Cheating

It was alleged that the footballer was using a birth certificate that belonged to a woman. Kaondera commented that there had been a mistake with his birth records when he was born:

There was a mistake with my birth certificate as it was written female. We corrected the mistake, but they had not changed the birth entry number,”

Achievements

Kaondera once ranked as one of the top 20 African players after the African Youth Championships in Guinea in 1999.[3]

Kaondera was once described by BBC sports journalist Farai Mungazi as the next Peter Ndlovu after the 1999 CAF Under-17 African Championships in Guinea.

Personal Life

Kaondera was formerly married to Mary Chiwenga for four years. Kaondera is the father of three children.

In July 2019, Kaondera sued Marry Chiwenga for a sum of US $700,000 claimed that she had forged divorce papers that had ended their marriage in 2010. Said Kaondera's court application:

Plaintiff (Kaondera) was not in the country but was in Cyprus where he was a professional footballer at the relevant time.

Mary fraudulently caused a return of service to be issued by the deputy sheriff at Harare, falsely claiming that plaintiff had been personally served with the summons on June 22, 2010, at Harare.

Further to that, the defendant (Mary) also fraudulently issued with the honourable court a consent paper dated July 7, 2010, wherein the plaintiff’s signature was forged. Plaintiff never entered into a consent paper with the defendant regarding the divorce proceedings under HC 3805/10.

… As a result of the irregular and fraudulent obtaining of a divorce order by the defendant, the plaintiff was seriously prejudiced in that the defendant remained with all the immovable and movable properties that the parties had acquired during the subsistence of the marriage.[5]
