Dr Stanislas Bigirimana is a systems scientist with expertise in Intellectual Property, Business Intelligence, Information Systems, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, International Marketing, Organisational Behaviour, Public Sector Management, Cybernetics, and Dynamic and Integrative Epistemology. He is also an entrepreneur (Co-founder and co-owner of Code Empire, a software development company based in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Education
He holds the grade of Doctor of Philosophy (information systems) from the Ruprecht-Karls-University, Heidelberg (Germany), a Masters in Intellectual Property offered jointly by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and Africa University, a Master’s in Business Intelligence from the Chinhoyi University of Technology (Zimbabwe). His early training includes a Masters of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Zimbabwe and a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
Career
Dr Bigirimana has been a lecturer in various colleges and universities in Zimbabwe such as Africa University, Arrupe Jesuit University, Zimbabwe Open University and University of Zimbabwe’s Graduate School of Management and UniLurio Business School in Mozambique. He taught Management Information Systems (MMS 501), Electronic Business (CIS 204), Marketing Management (MKT 401), International Marketing (MKT 406), Consumer Behaviour (MKT 405), Strategic Management (MMS 411), Organisational Behaviour (MMS 201 & MMS 502), Public Policy Analysis (MPA 501), Public Sector Management (MMS 205) and Introduction to Public Administration and Management (MPM 101) and Research Methods (MPM 203), Electronic Governance (MPM 309), Ethics and Christian Values (TEV 200). Dr Bigirimana is also a researcher, he has so far supervised two doctoral theses on the behalf of the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) and he is currently supervising three candidates in the same university. He has also supervised over 60 master’s theses and over twenty undergraduate dissertations. He has attended over 37 international conferences within and outside Zimbabwe and has published 35 journal articles, one (1) monograph and two (2) book chapters.
Dr Bigirimana has reviewed articles for prestigious publishing houses such as Emerald Insight, IGI global, Springer and Sage Publishers. Moreover, he is part of a team which recently won a Research Grant from the African Peace Network. He is an active member of the American Society for Cybernetics, the German Society for Informatics, the International Society of Systems Sciences, The European Alliance for Innovation and the African Transitional Justice Network.
Dr Bigirimana has mentored students in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship leading teams of Africa University students to the semi-final of the Hult Prize for five consecutive years. The Hult Prize is a global business idea competition where the winner One Million United States Dollars (US$1 000 000) in prize money. At Africa University, Dr Bigirimana is currently a member of the Africa University Research Committee, the Africa University Research Ethics Committee and the Spiritual Life Committee.
