Vimbai Nyemba is a Zimbabwean lawyer who is based in Harare. Nyemba is the chairperson of the Procurement Regulatory Authority, a position she was appointed to by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in January 2018. Nyemba is the senior and founding partner her own law firm, V.Nyemba and Associates as well as a councilor in the Law Society of Zimbabwe.


Background

Vimbai Nyemba was born at Shabani MIne Hospital where her father used to work. She grew up in Mberengwa District. She is married to Engineer Wilson R Nyemba and they have two daughters, Ashley and Amanda.[1]

Education

Nyemba attended her primary education at Mbirashava School and Musume Secondary School for her ‘O’ levels from 1982 to 1985. She proceeded to Girls’ High School in Harare for her ‘A’ levels and the University of Zimbabwe where she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Honours Degree (LLBS) in 1991.[1]

Career

She started off her career as a Professional Assistant with various Law firms until she started her own practice in 1997. After 15 years in practice, she decided to join the decision-making body of the profession; The Law Society of Zimbabwe. Nyemba was voted into Council and in 2009 was the only lady to join a council of 10 men. In 2013 and 2014 she was the vice- president of the Law Society of Zimbabwe and in 2015 she rose to be the president of the esteemed profession. Mrs. Nyemba participated in the Constitution-making process as a Technical Advisor and sits on various boards. She is a councilor of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association and of SADC Lawyers Association, and does a lot of counseling, although not as a business venture.[1]
