Beitbridge resident magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba has ordered an investigation to determine the age of a juvenile who claims that prosecutors exaggerated his age to secure a prison sentence.
According to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200035245/sadc-ignores-moza-civil-unrest">NewsDay</a>, the juvenile was arrested, tried, and convicted alongside 23-year-old Knowledge Mudau for stock theft after they were caught skinning two goats. Said the boy:

I told them I was 16 and they said they will put my age at 23. I have no money because police took all my money when they arrested me.
</blockquote>
During the proceedings, when asked who had exaggerated his age, the boy responded that the prosecutors had done so during the pre-trial interview.
In response, Gwazemba immediately halted the proceedings and directed the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service officers to carry out a clinical dental examination to accurately determine the boy’s age.
A clinical dental examination is a reliable method for estimating age, as it involves evaluating several key factors related to tooth development.
The sequence and timing of tooth eruption are particularly useful, especially for children and adolescents, as these stages correlate with specific age ranges. Additionally, the development of tooth crowns and roots can provide valuable insights into a person’s age.
As people age, the transparency of their dentin increases, a factor that can be measured to help estimate age. F
Furthermore, the degree of wear on the teeth, known as attrition, can also offer clues about a person’s age, providing a comprehensive approach to determining the boy’s true age.

Magistrate Orders Age Verification For Young Goat Thief Who Claims Prosecutors Exaggerated His Age

Former First Lady Grace Mugabe reportedly broke down in court when presented with belongings of her late husband, Robert Mugabe, during the theft trial of her former employees, reported <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/former-first-lady-grace-breaks-down-after-seeing-late-husband-robert-mugabes-belongings-during-ex-employees-theft-trial/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>.
The trial is taking place at the Harare Magistrates Court, involving five defendants: Tendai Nyamudze, Allen Chinamonya, Danmore Chinamonya, Samson Karonga, and Brighton Bunganirwa.
The accused are alleged to have stolen various items, including an old plated table fork, a pictorial book titled “Robert Mugabe at 90”, welcome remarks from Mugabe’s speech at the 1994 National People’s Congress, a discussion paper from a Southern African Development Community (SADC) meeting, and a collection of handbags and other personal effects.
Grace claims the total value of the stolen items is approximately US$3.5 million, while the court documents state a value of US$500,000.
Her emotional breakdown during the presentation of the items led the magistrate to adjourn the proceedings temporarily.
Grace recounted that in 2017, her family moved from an old house owned by the ruling ZANU PF party to their new residence, Blue Roof, using four containers to store their belongings.
She told the court that she became aware of the alleged theft in 2022, after returning from Singapore and being informed by her brother, Winston Marufu, which prompted her to file a police report.
Grace disputed the defendants’ claims that the items were gifts from her husband. She said:

In May, I noticed that the containers had been ransacked and many items were missing, although I can’t recall every single item that was taken. One of the accused was caught red-handed with chest drawers.
</blockquote>
She asserted that the former president had not given gifts to these workers, especially when other dedicated employees of more than 30 years had not received such perks.
Grace identified one of the accused persons based on their history of theft during her employment.
Prosecuting, Oscar Madhume, alleged that on May 22, 2024, Grace inspected the containers storing artefacts belonging to her late husband for donation to the African Liberation Museum, only to discover that several locks were broken and numerous items were missing.
After filing a police report, an investigation led to the recovery of goods valued at approximately US$2,000, which included two men’s suits and a Sony television, from Allen and Danmore.
Karonga was arrested at the scene while loitering and reportedly had difficulty providing satisfactory explanations during police questioning.
It was noted that Brighton Bunganirwa had a previous conviction for a similar offence against Grace in 2022.

Grace Mugabe Weeps In Court

An armed robber was reportedly shot and killed on Tuesday morning during an attempted robbery at a fuel service station in Kadoma.
According to police sources cited by <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/robber-shot-dead-in-a-foiled-fuel-station-robbery/">The Herald</a>, two robbers armed with machetes targeted Spencer Fuel Service Station around 3 AM.
The security guards at the fuel station responded by shooting one of the robbers, while the other managed to escape.
The ZRP spokesperson in Mashonaland West Province, Inspector Ian Kohwera, could not confirm the details of the incident.

An armed robber was shot and killed during a robbery at a fuel station in Kadoma. The robbers had machetes and tried to rob the station early in the morning. The security guards shot one robber, and the other got away. The police could not confirm what happened. The incident is still being investigated.

Armed Robber Shot Dead In Foiled Fuel Station Heist

A 40-year-old woman from Bulawayo has been left distressed after her car was stolen in plain sight of staff at a car wash on the outskirts of the Central Business District.
The vehicle, a white Toyota Fortuner with South African registration plates valued at US$22,000, was taken on Monday evening while it was left at the car wash for a cleaning service.
Police in Bulawayo have since launched a search for the vehicle. Inspector Abednico Ncube, spokesperson for the ZRP in Bulawayo Province, confirmed the incident to the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/car-wash-employees-watch-as-thieves-drive-off-in-luxury-car/">Chronicle</a> and appealed to the public for any information that could assist in recovering the vehicle and apprehending the perpetrator(s). He said:

Police are appealing for anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of an unknown accused person who stole a white Toyota Fortuner with a GP number plate.
On the 18th of November 2024 at around 1000 hours, the complainant, a female adult aged 40 years of Reigate suburb, asked her employee to take her vehicle for a carwash.
He then took the vehicle, a South African-registered, white Toyota Fortuner, Registration Number JN10 YP GP to Tunnel Carwash located along R. Mugabe Way and left it with the carwash staff so that it could be washed and he returned to work.
At around 4 PM, the complainant went to the car wash in the company of her driver intending to collect the vehicle.
She was advised by the manager that the vehicle had been stolen as they saw the car being driven off along Matopos Road due south and enquired from his subordinates if they had released the vehicle.
None of them confirmed having given the keys to anyone nor authorized the release of the vehicle.

A lady in Bulawayo had her car stolen while she was waiting for it to be washed at a car wash. The car was a white Toyota Fortuner from South Africa worth $22,000. The police are looking for the car and the thieves. They are asking for anyone with information to come forward. Bulawayo Woman’s Luxury Car Vanishes While Getting Washed

A 24-year-old man was found murdered at the intersection of Simon Vengesai Muzenda Street and Nelson Mandela Street in Harare on Tuesday morning.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the murder, saying the body of Artwell Nyamayaro had multiple stab wounds on his right leg. He said:

Police in Harare are investigating circumstances surrounding a case of murder in which Artwell Nyamayaro (24) was found dead with stab wounds on the right leg at corner Simon Vengesai Muzenda Street and Nelson Mandela Street on 19/11/24 at around 0645 hours.
Police recovered a Mazda Demio vehicle, registration number AFS 3528, at the scene. The driver’s seat was blood stained and the vehicle had two punctured tyres. Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the man was stabbed while inside his car, and his body was later discovered beneath the shade of a nearby building.

A 24-year-old man named Artwell Nyamayaro was found dead with stab wounds in Harare. The police are investigating the murder and found his body at an intersection in the city. 24-Year-Old Man Found Murdered In Harare Central Business District

A police officer from Buhera, Cuthbert Mupfuki, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the High Court after brutally murdering his wife, Brenda Manyara, with an Okapi knife. The attack occurred amid rumours that she was seeing another man, reported <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/police-officer-kills-wife-over-infidelity-rumours/">The Manica Post</a>.
Mupfuki, 37, from Nechiwowe Village in Chief Nyashanu, was found guilty of murder under Section 47(1) (a) or (b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23. At the time of the crime, he was a member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Support Unit, Sierra Troop, in Changadzi.
During sentencing, Mutare High Court Judge Justice Isaac Muzenda said he considered that Mupfuki had paid 30 head of cattle as reparation to the deceased’s family.
The court heard that on October 10 2023, Mupfuki stabbed Manyara multiple times, resulting in her death at the scene. A post-mortem conducted by Dr Elisha Murasiranwa at Birchenough Bridge Hospital determined that respiratory failure due to trauma was the cause of death.
Witness Constance Gwemba, a niece of the victim, testified that she was at Mupfuki’s home with Manyara and other family members when Mupfuki invited Manyara to their bedroom.
Shortly after, Gwemba heard screams for help but found the door locked. Peering through a window, she saw Mupfuki pressing Manyara against the wall while accusing her of wanting to degrade him by dating a local villager, Joseph Murwisi.
Mupfuki later dragged Manyara’s body to the passage and opened the door, walking away while declaring it was better for him to be in prison than with a “cheating” wife. Gwemba discovered Manyara lying on the floor, bleeding profusely from her chest and with a deep cut on her left hand.
At around 9 PM that evening, Mupfuki called villager Chipo Madidi, instructing her to gather everyone at the homestead. When he returned, he stated that he knew why he had killed Manyara.
Another witness, Mupfuki’s daughter Barbra, recounted hearing her mother being beaten and later witnessing her father emerge, claiming he would turn himself in to the police.
Madidi testified that when she arrived at the scene, she found Manyara’s lifeless body in the sitting room. Mupfuki admitted over the phone that he had killed Manyara due to her supposed affair with Joseph Murwisi.
Murwisi himself testified that on the evening of the incident, he was attacked by Mupfuki while cycling home.
Mupfuki struck him with a log, causing him to fall. Despite his injuries, Murwisi managed to escape, leaving his bicycle and groceries behind.
After the attack, Murwisi heard people crying at Mupfuki’s home; he sustained bruises and a swollen arm from the assault.

Police Officer Gets 15 Years For Killing Wife In Jealous Rage

An alleged land baron who unlawfully developed and sold 49 stands in Crowborough, Harare, has been arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday, November 19.
<a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/land-baron-develops-sells-49-stands-on-council-land/">H-Metro</a> reported that Voyage Dhambuza of Warren Park, who has been allegedly running his criminal enterprise since 2016, was arraigned before magistrate Dennis Mangosi.
The complainant, represented by Housing Director Samuel Nyabezi, is the City of Harare.
In 2016, Dhambuza allegedly formed the New Dawn Housing Pay Scheme, a trust with 49 members. In 2022, he allegedly identified and invaded an open space, Harare City Council land stand number 4273 in Crowborough, measuring 7.4 hectares.
The court heard thatDhambuza opened roads, pegged 49 residential stands of 300 square meters each, and allocated them to desperate home seekers without the council’s authority.
Despite warnings from the City of Harare, Dhambuza allowed the construction of two houses.
A police report was filed, and investigations revealed that Dhambuza, through his trust, invaded council land without authority, contravening Section 24(1)(4) of the Regional, Town and Country Planning Act Chapter 29:12.
Over the years, councils have struggled with land barons—individuals or groups who illegally sell State or council land to desperate home seekers.
These land barons often sell land that isn’t legally theirs, resulting in the creation of illegal settlements without proper planning or infrastructure.
Many land barons are linked to ZANU PF, allowing them to operate with impunity. They forge documents and exploit home seekers’ lack of knowledge about land laws.
In response, the Harare City Council has been forced to demolish thousands of illegal structures, displacing many families.
This situation has caused a public outcry and led to government intervention to halt the demolitions.

A man named Voyage Dhambuza sold 49 illegal pieces of land in Crowborough, Harare, without permission from the city council. He formed a fake housing scheme in 2016 and invaded council land. Even after warnings, he allowed people to build houses on the land. The police got involved and found out about his illegal activities. Land barons like Dhambuza cause problems by selling land that doesn't belong to them, making it hard for the council to plan and provide infrastructure. Land Baron Arrested For Selling 49 Illegal Stands In Crowborough

The Supreme Court dismissed Former Deputy Finance Minister Terrence Mukupe’s appeal against his conviction and sentence last week.
Mukupe was found guilty of smuggling fuel by the High Court and sentenced to a three-year jail term and a US$12,780 fine in November 2023.
In March 2024, High Court judge Benjamin Chikowero sentenced Mukupe and his accomplices, Same Kapisoriso, Joseph Taderera, and Leonard Mudzuto, to three-year jail terms for smuggling 138,979 litres of diesel in 2017.
They were initially jailed for three and a half years, but six months were suspended on condition that they do not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
They were also fined US$12,780 each, with an alternative of an additional two-year prison sentence if they failed to pay the fine.
The four faced fraud charges and an alternative charge of contravening section 174(1) of the Customs and Excise Act (false declaration).
The High Court ruled against their appeal earlier this year. They then appealed to the Supreme Court, where a three-panel bench comprising Justices Hlekani Mwayera, Felistus Chatukuta, and Nicholas Mathonsi heard their case.

Former Deputy Finance Minister Terrence Mukupe's appeal against his conviction and sentence for smuggling fuel was dismissed by the Supreme Court. Mukupe and his accomplices were found guilty of smuggling diesel and sentenced to three years in jail and a fine. They tried to appeal the decision, but the High Court and now the Supreme Court have upheld their conviction. They have to pay a fine or face additional prison time. The Supreme Court's decision means they will have to serve their sentences as originally handed down by the High Court.

Terrence Mukupe's Appeal Dismissed By Supreme Court

A man identified by the police as Spencer Mapfumo has become a victim of social media abuse due to a case of mistaken identity. He shares the same name as a 42-year-old armed robber who was arrested earlier this month.
The robber, also named Spencer Mapfumo, is accused of multiple robberies, including a US$30,000 heist at a company in Workington, Harare.
Following his identification by the police as one of the suspects, public anger was misdirected toward the innocent Spencer Mapfumo, leading to widespread online harassment.
In response to the situation, police have intervened by releasing photos of both individuals to clarify the misunderstanding and prevent further harm.
National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi issued a statement confirming that the Spencer Mapfumo facing online attacks is not one of the eight suspects linked to a series of 12 robbery cases targeting residents, churches, and businesses in Harare. He said:

ZRP Steps In As Man With Same Name As Armed Robber Endures Online Harassment

Two brothers, Rassson Hove (38) and Moses Mudzingwa (31) have been sentenced to prison for a violent dispute that led to the unlawful slaughter of their sibling’s ox.
The two men, from Mangunye Village, will each serve an effective nine years in jail after the Gweru Magistrates’ Court suspended one year of their sentences on the condition that they pay restitution to the ox owner, their brother.
They are required to compensate him to the tune of US$500, with each contributing US$250.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident occurred on November 10, when the two brothers attended a funeral at their brother’s homestead.
Tensions flared after Hove and Mudzingwa accused the complainant of bewitching their deceased sibling. The disagreement escalated into a heated argument, which caused the complainant to flee his home in fear.
In an act of retaliation, Hove and Mudzingwa went to their brother’s kraal and unlawfully slaughtered one of his oxen.
They served a portion of the meat at the funeral while leaving the remainder in the complainant’s bedroom. The ox, valued at US$500, was not recovered.
Despite the brothers’ actions, the court allowed for the possibility of a reduced sentence, contingent on their compensation to the complainant.
As it stands, the two will each spend nine years behind bars unless the compensation is made.

Siblings Jailed For Slaughtering Brother’s Ox At Family Funeral

A 27-year-old woman from Borrowdale, Harare, was allegedly gang-raped at gunpoint by three men on Saturday night.
The woman’s two children, a five-month-old baby and a two-year-old are also believed to have been sexually assaulted by the attackers.
The woman had left home to buy airtime, carrying her five-month-old daughter on her back and her two-year-old daughter on her shoulders.
On their way back home, they encountered the three unidentified men at the bridge near Pomona Quarry Stones.
After the attack, the woman returned home and reported the incident to her husband, who then helped her file a police report.
The spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Harare Province, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/gang-rapes-woman-abuses-her-two-kids-one-of-the-kids-is-just-five-months-old-her-other-daughter-is-only-two-years-old/">H-Metro</a>. One of the accused persons ordered the complainant to keep quiet and they lifted her together with her kids and laid them on the grass.

The other suspects also raped her without protection and the minor children were suspected to have been raped as well.
When the third accused finished, they instructed the complainant to wake up and walk away without looking back and she complied.
The three unknown accused persons disappeared in the dark.

Borrowdale Woman Gang-Raped At Gunpoint

A shopper at Chibwe Business Centre in Stoneridge Park, Harare, stumbled upon a robbery in progress on Sunday and successfully apprehended one of the suspects.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the suspects, identified as Tawanda Chimuti (21) and an accomplice known only as Munyuki, launched an attack on the shop attendant before making off with cash.
Thanks to the quick actions of the shopper, Chimuti was detained at the scene and later handed over to the police. Police said:

In a separate incident, police in Harare arrested Vincent Tsoka (32) and Cuthbert Tazvitya (33) for unlawful possession of an Astra-Uncetay CIA S.A. Guemion pistol with an empty magazine on November 17, 2024, along Patrenda Way in Budiriro 2.
Police said that Tsoka was found in a parked Toyota Corolla, registration number AAA 6773, with US$1,692.00 in cash and the firearm.
During questioning, he implicated Tazvitya, which led to Tazvitya’s arrest at a residence in Budiriro 2.

Brave Shopper Confronts Robbers In Harare

A Zimbabwean court on Monday, November 18, ordered the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to return electronic gadgets, including mobile phones and laptops, that had been unlawfully confiscated from three prominent pro-democracy campaigners.
According to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), the three pro-democracy campaigners namely Namatai Kwekweza, Robson Chere and Samuel Gwenzi were on Wednesday 31 July 2024 seized from a plane in Harare in July and tortured before being prosecuted on charges of disorderly conduct in a public place.
They had boarded at Robert Mugabe International Airport in Harare, while on their way to attend a conference in Victoria Falls. Said ZLHR:

Kwekweza, the leader of WeLead Trust, Chere, the Secretary-General of Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe and Gwenzi, a former Councillor for Ward 5 in Harare, were charged with disorderly conduct in a public place as defined in section 41(b) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act and accused of allegedly participating in an unsanctioned demonstration reportedly held at Harare Magistrates Court in June, where they protested against the detention of Citizens Coalition for Change political party leader Jameson Timba and some of the opposition party members and demanding their release from prison.
The trio, who are out of prison custody on bail and are represented by Jeremiah Bamu, Tinashe Chinopfukutwa and Kelvin Kabaya of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, recently filed an application at Harare Magistrates Court, where they asked the court to order ZRP to release their mobile phone handsets and laptops, arguing that their electronic gadgets were being unlawfully held by ZRP as according to prosecutors, the seized devices, were not required to be used during their trial.

Kwekweza, Chere and Gwenzi together with Vusumuzi Moyo, Phillies Pikitayi, Dephine Gutsa, Simbarashe Blackson, Emmanuel Sitima and Last Chinodya, return to court on 9 December, where a ruling on their application for exception to the charges of disorderly conduct, will be handed down.

Court Orders ZRP To Return Seized Gadgets Of Pro-Democracy Activists

A man accused of murder nine years ago recently stirred emotions in his community when he returned to the scene of the crime under police guard for a reconstruction exercise.
The incident took place in Bilingoma Village, Ward 5, Matjinge, Plumtree, Matabeleland South Province.
According to <a href="https://cite.org.zw/haunted-by-victims-ghost-murder-suspect-returns-to-crime-scene-nine-years-later/">CITE</a>, the accused, Costine Moyo, allegedly killed and buried his victim in that very location in 2015.
A local villager, speaking to CITE, revealed that Moyo had been jailed for the crime but was released in 2014. Added the villager:

In 2016, he raped two women in Matjinge and Gambo, then evaded police by hiding in the Tsholotsho bush, where he committed another rape before being caught.

Witnesses told CITE that Moyo arrived in the village under police escort, who announced that he was there to assist in locating the remains of a person allegedly murdered near the Big Bite shops in 2015.
According to local sources, a woman named Loveness Dube played a role in the incident by allegedly helping Moyo lure the victim, claiming she had arranged a job for him in Lupane. Said a villager:

The victim, unaware, travelled with Dube to Bulawayo, where he was met by Moyo and others at Big Bite shops.
They gave him alcohol and killed him later that night. Moyo confessed that Big Bite took parts of the victim’s body – including his head, hand, foot and private parts – and burned the remains with 10 litres of petrol.

Villagers claimed that the morning after the murder, Dube discovered bones, a satchel, and a birth certificate at the site.
Unable to read, Moyo began using the birth certificate without realising it revealed the identity of the deceased.
During his conversations with the villagers, Moyo disclosed that four people were involved in the murder: Big Bite, Loveness, Tendai, and another unnamed individual.
He claimed that he had been haunted by the victim, who appeared in his dreams demanding to be taken home.
The villagers also said Moyo confessed that Big Bite had promised him R20 000 but did not pay it.

Murder Suspect Returns To Crime Scene 9 Years Later, Claims Harassment By Victim's Ghost

A 34-year-old employee at Mpilo Central Hospital, Lizuba Nkosi Ngula, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for stealing mobile phones from patients while they were in a vulnerable state.
As reported by <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/mpilo-worker-jailed-for-stealing-cellphones-from-patients/">The Sunday News</a>, Ngula exploited patients’ illnesses to steal their mobile phones, leading to his conviction on three counts of theft following a full trial.
While Ngula was sentenced to 12 months, Bulawayo Magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa conditionally suspended three months of the sentence.
The remaining nine months of the sentence were suspended on the condition that Ngula performs 315 hours of community service at Cowdray Park Primary School.
Ngula, from Nkulumane suburb, works as an HIV testing counselor for the Global Fund, stationed at Mpilo Central Hospital.
The court was told that in the first count, Ngula stole a Samsung Galaxy A05 phone from Lucy Machingauta, a 36-year-old resident of Queens Park in Bulawayo. Said prosecutor Hazel Siphiwe Sithole:

Two men from Harare have been ordered to perform unpaid community service and pay fines after being caught selling underweight sugar.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Ernest Gwetsai (30) from Glenview 1 and Forget Dzapasi from Glen Norah A were recently convicted in the Harare Magistrates’ Court on two counts related to the sale of falsely labelled and underweight sugar.
The duo was found guilty of delivering products with misleading labels and selling goods without invoices.
They sold “Star Brands 2kg” brown sugar, which was found to be underweight, ranging from 1.243 to 1.330 kg per pack.
The illegal activities were uncovered by police detectives, who purchased a case of the sugar from KKK shop at Target Building, Corner Bute and Rezende St, Harare, in June 2024.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Gwetsai and Dzapasi were the suppliers of the sugar, but they could not provide any documentation for a second consignment delivered to the same shop. They were unable to explain the lack of invoices or delivery notes for the goods.
As a result, the two men were sentenced to 12 months in prison, with four months suspended for five years.
An additional eight months were suspended on the condition that they complete 210 hours of community service.
They were also fined US$100 for selling goods without invoices.

The arrests of Chemhere, Tinotenda Mabhandi (38), alias Timbobo, and Munyaradzi Gadzikwa (36) on November 12 followed the earlier capture of Spencer Mapfumo (42), Patrick Chibaba (38), alias Mupositori, Tarwirei Madzudzu (50), Paddington Meki (44), and Washington Marunze (36) on November 4.
ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi issued a statement confirming the arrests and providing further details on the investigation into the string of robberies. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of three additional suspects in connection with the armed robbery cases. The suspects are, Sydney Chemhere alias Seedza (42), Tinotenda Mabhandi alias Timbobo (38) and Munyaradzi Gadzikwa (36).
On 11th November 2024, detectives from CID Homicide, Harare arrested Sydney Chemhere after receiving information that he was hiding in Glenview 7, Harare. The arrest led to the recovery of eight Emex explosives and three fuse cables.
Tinotenda Mabhande was later arrested at Makomva Shops, Glenview, Harare. Munyaradzi Gadzikwa was arrested on 12th November 2024 while allegedly receiving spiritual deliverance from a traditional healer at a house in Glenview 1, Harare.
The three suspects are further clearing five cases of robbery which occurred between 31st July 2024 and 03rd October 2024 in Harare, including a case of armed robbery which occurred on 31st July 2024 at a church in Budiriro 5B, Harare where USD 2 599.00 cash, a cellphone and three passports were stolen and another case of armed robbery which occurred on 18th August 2024 at a house along Chinhamora Street, Ruwa where USD 2 300.00 cash was stolen.
The suspects are also linked to a case of robbery which occurred on 03rd October 2024 at a private security company along Lighton Road, Avondale, Harare where USD 80.00 cash, a laptop, four 303 rifles, a 0.22 rifle, three revolvers and several plastic bags containing live ammunition were stolen.
All in all, the suspects are clearing twelve cases of armed robbery where churches, companies and residential areas were targeted. Investigations are ongoing to link the suspects to other robbery cases.

Munyaradzi, who is the only child of Ethel, has expressed her deep anger and says she will never forgive her mother for what she describes as an unforgivable betrayal.
Ethel is said to have established a with her daughter’s husband in the rural areas. Munyaradzi said:

Mother Allegedly Steals Pregnant Daughter’s Husband

Panashe Mpofu, a 33-year-old woman from Bulawayo, has been sentenced to two years in prison for assaulting a neighbour’s child after discovering that her son and three other children were bunking school.
As reported by <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/bulawayo-woman-jailed-2-years-for-disciplining-girl-bunking-school/">ZimLive</a>, Mpofu became enraged when informed by the neighborhood watch in Old Luveve that her son, two girls, and another boy were skipping school and hanging out at a house whose owners are said to be living in the United Kingdom. The second boy resides at the house.
On November 8, Mpofu confronted the group and used a switch to beat her son and the two girls after the other boy fled.
The family of one of the girls involved filed a police report, leading to Mpofu’s arrest.
Mpofu, who appeared in court without legal representation, pleaded guilty to assault.
At the West Commonage Magistrates Court, Magistrate Vakayi Douglas Chikwekwe sentenced Mpofu to two years in prison, with six months conditionally suspended, meaning she will serve an effective 18-month sentence. Speaking before sentencing, Chikwekwe said:

Cases of assault are rampant in Bulawayo, not a day goes by without at least five cases being reported and some of these victims end up suffering from disability.”

The magistrate said that in determining the sentence, he considered that the victim was a child who had sustained injuries that prevented her from attending school.

The victim is the niece of prominent Matopo gold miner Mkhululi Ncube and controversial lawyer Mlweliwenkululeko Ncube.
Mpofu’s family has engaged a Bulawayo lawyer to file an urgent appeal against the sentence. A family spokesperson said:

Bulawayo Mayor David Coltart has said he was unaware of the bribery allegations against the city’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Edwin Ndlovu, and the Chairperson of the Council’s Finance and Development Committee, Councillor Mpumelelo Moyo, before their arrest on Thursday night.
Ndlovu and Moyo, who represent Ward 8 and Ward 26 respectively, are accused of demanding a bribe of US$20,000 from a company seeking to invest in Bulawayo.
The two were arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and are currently being held at Mzilikazi Police Station. They are expected to appear in court on Saturday.
In a post on X on Friday, Coltart revealed that he was first made aware of the allegations when the Town Clerk briefed him earlier that morning. Said Coltart:

I call for a thorough and fair investigation of these allegations. From the outset of my term as Mayor I have stated that we must adopt a zero tolerance policy towards corruption.
But allegations such as these must be investigated and tried through a fair, independent and professional judiciary.

According to ZACC Communications Manager, Simiso Mlevu, Ndlovu and Moyo demanded US$20,000 from Labenmon Investments as payment for facilitating approval for land to establish a cement mixing plant. She said:

The circumstances are that, in November 2023, Tsitsi Mapfumo of Labenmon Investments made an unsuccessful application for 10 hectares of land from the Bulawayo City Council for a cement mixing plant.

Mlevu said Labenmon Investments resubmitted the application in April 2024 and was offered 5.6 hectares. She added:

Recently, there has been a rise in armed robberies where security guards are attacked while carrying large sums of money.
Commissioner Chikunguru suggested that the police and security companies work together more closely to address this issue. He said:

First, I suggest we exchange contact information and start actively communicating, updating each other on what is happening, and sharing ideas on how we can win this battle.
Ensure you have the contact details of your nearest police station, the officers in charge, and other security stakeholders.
When armed robbers strike, contact us, and together we can effectively respond and combat this threat.
Second, I urge you to engage us in helping you vet and train your guards. We welcome the opportunity to address your guards directly, providing them with security tips that can enhance their skills. Invite us to your companies and allow us to assist in this critical area.
Additionally, we can provide counselling for guards struggling with substance abuse, which can adversely affect their performance and effectiveness.

In his third proposal, Commissioner Chikunguru suggested that the police should be given the authority to jointly monitor security guards during night patrols. He said:

You can establish log books for our police officers to sign when they pass by your premises. The finer details of this arrangement can be worked out between your organisation and the local police station, ensuring we collaborate effectively to maintain security. Lastly, I ask for unity in our march against crime.
Collaborate closely with our public relations officers to receive the latest crime tips, share intelligence, and form social media groups to enhance our collective efforts in combating crime.
This united approach will not only strengthen our response but also foster a sense of community vigilance essential in our fight against criminal activities.

Detective Inspector Anele Mkandla, acting officer-in-charge of CID Homicide (Harare), has expressed concern over the increasing number of house and business robberies in Zimbabwe.
He said security guards are being tricked and overpowered by robbers due to inadequate training in firearm use adding that there is a need for better training to help security guards respond effectively to violent crimes.
Mkandla also noted that many business premises rely on security guards and alarm systems, but guards are often captured and disarmed.
Armed robberies have targeted security companies, with reaction teams being cornered and their service pistols stolen, which are then used in other robberies.
Mkandla urged security companies to improve training and support for their guards to combat the rise in violent crimes.

ZRP Urges Security Firms To Conduct Lifestyle Audits On Guards

Two policemen from Harare, Sergeant James Chifamba (46) and Constable Trymore Mukunza (36), were suspended from duty after being captured on camera allegedly accepting bribes from motorists.
The police are investigating not only the two officers but also motorists and commuter omnibus (kombi) crews who are suspected of offering the bribes.
Chifamba and Mukunza were charged with criminal abuse of office as public officers and appeared in court before Harare Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa. They were remanded in custody.
Last week, a kombi driver, Tinashe Madzima, and a conductor, Ishamel Gonyora, were arrested after being seen in the video offering bribes to the policemen. Two commuter omnibuses were also impounded.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that they are continuing to identify other suspects involved in the bribery scheme, and further arrests may follow. He said:

Two Policemen Suspended After Viral Bribery Video Emerges

A Zimbabwean national, Washington Takura Muzweir, was arrested on Wednesday in Vadodara City, India, for allegedly assaulting a man and forcibly transferring money from the complainant’s bank account.
He is also accused of slapping a police constable who intervened in the matter.
As reported by <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/ahmedabad/zimbabwe-man-held-for-assaulting-man-9670745/">India Express</a>, Muzweir is a student at a university in Waghodia. The victim, Rameshkumar Nandlal Agarwal, is a construction site manager responsible for managing the property Muzweir had rented in India and was looking to vacate.
Muzweir allegedly assaulted Agarwal over a dispute regarding the return of the security deposit for the rented flat.
When Agarwal intervened in a heated argument between Muzweir and the mother of the flat owner, Muzweir allegedly attacked him and forcefully transferred Rs 14,000 from Agarwal’s bank account into his own.
When the police arrived, Muzweir reportedly attacked two constables who were trying to control the situation.
Muzweir has been booked under two separate FIRs for assault, forced money transfer, and attacking police officers. Agarwal said:

I told him the aged woman was alone at home, yet he barged in. When I asked him to leave, he dragged me to the lift, stripped me to my undergarments and assaulted me continuously, while forcing me to transfer money through a payment app.

Police said Muzweir wanted his Rs 16,000 deposit back, but the owner stalled because he wanted to follow due process.
Meanwhile, a second FIR has also been lodged against Washington by the constable who he allegedly assaulted.
An FIR (first information report) is a document prepared by the police after verifying the facts of the complaint. It may contain details of the crime and the alleged criminal.

Zimbabwean Student Arrested In India For Bashing Landlord, Police Officers

A 23-year-old Zimbabwean man, identified by friends as Saymore, was stabbed to death in Leeds, West Yorkshire, around midnight on Tuesday, reported <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/grief-as-zimbabwean-man-stabbed-to-death-in-leeds-united-kingdom/">ZimLive</a>.
Police confirmed the murder, saying that Saymore received emergency treatment at the scene before being taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Initial reports indicate that he was attacked inside a ground-floor flat in the Belle Isle area by three males who fled the scene.
A search, aided by a police helicopter, led to the arrest of two suspects aged 18 and 16 in the Middleton area shortly afterwards.
The suspects were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and are being investigated in connection with the murder.
The West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team is leading the investigation and has confirmed the teenagers’ arrests.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle said:

We are keen to hear from anyone with any information that could assist the investigation, particularly anyone who witnessed a disturbance or anything suspicious at or around the address at any point leading up to when the emergency services were called shortly after midnight.
We are carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area and would ask that people check their CCTV or doorbell footage for anything that could be relevant, as well as any dashcam footage from anyone who was driving in Winrose Avenue or the surrounding area around the time of the incident.

Zimbabwean Man Fatally Stabbed In Leeds, United Kingdom

Takudzwa Dzumbunu, chairperson for Works and Town Planning at Harare City Council, was on Tuesday fined US$300 or spend six months in prison for misleading the Commission of Inquiry about her academic qualifications.
The Commission, led by Retired High Court Judge Justice Maphios Cheda, reprimanded Dzumbunu after she retracted her claim of holding a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Public Administration.
Dzumbunu could not produce the degree, which she initially claimed was from the University of Zimbabwe when she appeared before the Commission in October.
Justice Cheda ordered Dzumbunu to provide the academic qualification as evidence.
During further questioning by lead investigator Thabani Mpofu, Dzumbunu, a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) councillor, admitted to lying about her qualifications. She said:

I thought I was going to get the certificates but I had failed one course and did not graduate.
My apologies for misleading the Commission. I thought I was going to get the certificates but it wasn’t going to be possible.
I have no justification for behaving the way that I did. I thought it was going to be an easy process to acquire my certificate but I should have just said that I haven’t acquired it yet.

In her previous appearance before the Commission, Dzumbunu was briefly detained at the old Makombe building after being found guilty of contempt.
The Commission of Inquiry has raised concerns about the qualifications and competence of some Harare City Council officials, revealing that several are underqualified for their positions.
Justice Cheda imposed a fine of U$300 on Dzumbunu for lying under oath. Said Cheda:

You have made an undertaking that you will not in the future deliberately lie or mislead or misrepresent facts in the manner before this commission of inquiry. In addition, you have offered an apology for your bad conduct and behaviour before this Commission.
You are sentenced to pay a fine of 300 or six months imprisonment which is wholly suspended for a period of five years on condition that during that period you do not contravene sections 12, 13 and 14 of the Commission of Inquiry Act.

This follows revelations that many Harare City Council committee chairpersons lack basic qualifications or relevant experience and fail to comprehend the demands of their roles.

Takudzwa Dzumbunu, A Harare Councillor, Fined US$300 For Lying She Has A Degree

The Zimbabwe High Court has declared that section 8(1) of the Immigration Act, which allowed immigration officers to detain foreigners suspected of committing crimes for up to 14 days without judicial oversight, is unconstitutional and invalid.
On November 12, 2024, Justice Christopher Dube-Banda ruled that section 8(1) violated section 50(2)(b) of the Constitution, which ensures the right to be brought before a court within 48 hours of detention. The ruling emphasized that this provision infringed upon human rights, including liberty, dignity, and freedom.
This case was brought to the court by Tatenda Chakabva, a resident of Harare, with the support of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).
Chakabva argued that the provision allowed for arbitrary detention, which undermined constitutional rights and international treaties ratified by Zimbabwe, such as the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
He was represented by lawyers Brighton Sadowero, Tinashe Chinopfukutwa, and Kelvin Kabaya.
Chakabva filed the application on May 28, 2024, seeking to have section 8(1) declared inconsistent with the Constitution.
He contended that it authorised immigration officers to detain suspects for up to 14 days without judicial oversight, violating the mandatory requirement that any arrested or detained person be brought to court within 48 hours.
The Chief Immigration Officer opposed the application, arguing that the provision was necessary to combat transnational crimes such as terrorism and human trafficking, justifying extended detention without judicial review.
Justice Dube-Banda disagreed, stating that judicial oversight is essential to protect the rights of detainees and ensure that continued detention is lawful. He emphasized that arbitrary detention without court oversight is unlawful and undermines the rule of law.
This ruling aligns with international and regional conventions, which require prompt judicial review of detention, and affirms that Zimbabwe’s immigration authorities cannot authorize prolonged detention without judicial review.
The High Court’s ruling is subject to confirmation by Zimbabwe’s Constitutional Court.
