Legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, widely regarded as one of the greatest football coaches of all time, has been in Zimbabwe on a private visit.
The 83-year-old was recently spotted at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, where he posed for photos with staff members during his three-day stay.
The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) confirmed his visit with a post on social media, expressing their gratitude. The ZTA said:

The supporters, who made the trip to Pretoria by bus from Simba Bhora Football Club, found themselves stranded in South Africa after the match.
In a statement released on Wednesday night, ZIFA expressed sympathy for the fans’ situation and commended their dedication to the Mighty Warriors.
However, the association made it clear that it had no involvement in the travel arrangements or logistics for the supporters.
ZIFA explained that the fans had made their own plans and coordinated directly with transport providers and that the association was not responsible for organising their travel. The statement reads:

Harare-based cleric Walter Magaya’s plans to renovate and build stadiums across Zimbabwe have gathered momentum, with Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo likely to be his next project after completing work at Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe. His goal is to renovate at least 10 stadiums.
Magaya, the founder and leader of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries, was recently in Masvingo, where he led a group of city officials to Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe. He showed them the ongoing renovations and said similar work could be done at Mucheke Stadium if an agreement is reached.
Masvingo’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Daniel Mberikunashe, confirmed to <a href="https://tellzim.com/prophet-magaya-to-renovate-mucheke-stadium-in-exchange-for-commercial-land/">TellZim News</a> that the city is likely to offer Magaya commercial land in exchange for renovating Mucheke Stadium.
Mberikunashe added that Magaya had already communicated his intention to request land as part of the deal. Said Mberikunashe:

In an interview with TellZim News during the tour of Chahwanda Stadium, Magaya said he plans to start work by May 1, 2025, once the agreement is finalised. He said:

I am ready to start construction work at Mucheke stadium as early as the 1st of May if we reach an agreement with the council.
It is my wish to see Zimbabwe hosting the Africa Cup of Nations by 2032 or even the World Cup, hence, the need to build world-class stadiums across the country.

Magaya said that construction of Chahwanda Stadium, which began in December 2024, is expected to be completed and ready for use by the end of March this year.
Magaya is also in talks with Kadoma City Council to arrange a similar partnership as the one he is negotiating with Masvingo City Council.
Kadoma Mayor, Councillor Nijel Ruzariro, who was part of the delegation on the tour, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Magaya to build a modern stadium. Said Ruzariro:

Warriors vice-captain Marshall Munetsi made his highly anticipated English Premier League debut on Sunday, coming on for Wolverhampton Wanderers in their 2-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.
Munetsi was given an unfamiliar role by Wolves’ Portuguese manager, Vítor Pereira, who deployed him as a number 9 when he entered the match at the start of the second half.

Former Premier Soccer League boss Twine Phiri and former ZIFA financial director Phillemon Machana have withdrawn their appeals at the Court of Arbitration for Sports, where they were challenging Nqobile Magwizi’s election as ZIFA president.
Phiri and Machana had filed the appeal, alleging interference in the election after businessman Wicknell Chivayo offered a US$10 million sponsorship to the association and personal vehicles to ZIFA councillors in exchange for voting for Magwizi.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Phiri and Machana confirmed that they were withdrawing their appeal.
They explained that the decision was made to give football space to heal, stabilise, and grow, allowing the new executive committee to begin with a clean slate and without any contest.
The two also said that Chivayo, being no stranger to football sponsorship, should no longer be seen as having interfered in the election process. They added:

Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has honoured his pledge to settle Highlanders’ debt to former coach Baltemar Brito and his assistant Antonio Joao Torres.
Highlanders faced sanctions from the FIFA Disciplinary Committee last week after failing to pay a balance of over US$26,000.
As of October 17, 2024, the club owed Brito US$14,778, along with US$237.71 in interest, and Torres was owed US$11,788, with US$193.74 in interest.
In a statement released by Highlanders on Wednesday, 12 February, the club confirmed that Chivayo had fully settled the outstanding debts as promised. The club said:

Pasuwa’s appointment comes after a brief standoff between FAM and the Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS).
MNCS initially blocked the hire, arguing the recruitment process had not followed proper procedure.

The application period for the 2025 exam will run from 4 March to 17 April 2025, with the exam scheduled for 18 June 2025.
ZIFA has welcomed these changes, which align with FIFA’s commitment to enhancing inclusivity and accessibility in football governance.

FIFA changed how football agents take exams. They can now take the exam online instead of in person. This change makes it easier for more people to become football agents. The exam will happen every year, and the next one is in June 2025. People who want to take the exam can apply from March to April. The Zimbabwe Football Association is happy about these changes. FIFA wants to make sure everyone has a fair chance to be part of football.

FIFA Introduces Online Football Agent Exam

The new ZIFA board has pledged to fulfil a promise made nine years ago to reward the Mighty Warriors, Zimbabwe’s women’s senior football team, with 30 residential stands for qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics and the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi made the during a presentation to the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC).
Back in 2016, then-Minister of Sport and Recreation Makhosini Hlongwane had promised the stands as a reward for the team’s remarkable achievement. Said Magwizi (via <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/zifa-revisit-mighty-warriors-stands-promise/">Chronicle</a>):

When the women went to the Olympics in 2016, they were promised some stands. Am I correct?.
So, we are going to come to you with that issue. We want to follow it up. That’s what we want. These national team players, who raised our flag high at that time, were given that promise.
So, I hope you will be able to enlighten us on that matter because it is a very important issue. It sets the right tone and attitude, even for us as an administration, to be able to fulfil our obligations.

In 2016, the Mighty Warriors made history as the first football team from Zimbabwe to qualify for the finals of a major global tournament—the Olympic Games.
Their stunning achievement came after they triumphed over continental heavyweights Cameroon in the final qualifier the year before.
But their success didn’t stop there. The team also secured a spot in the finals of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, defeating Zambia in the final qualifying round.
Their hard-earned victories were celebrated with a dinner where, amid the festivities, then-Sports Minister Makhosini Hlongwane made the promise to the team.
Hlongwane said that the government could not offer cash rewards, but would provide 30 housing stands in Harare as a token of recognition.
Since that moment, the Mighty Warriors have made several attempts to follow up on the promise, but their efforts have been in vain.
SRC chairman Gerald Mlotshwa agreed with Magwizi that any public promise should be kept.
SRC Commissioner Nigel Munyati lamented the ongoing neglect of women’s football, saying the Warriors often receive preferential treatment over the women’s teams. Said Munyati:

The Mighty Warriors are gearing up for a crucial battle as they prepare for the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026 qualifiers against Angola later this month.
The team is currently in camp, training hard with one goal in mind: to secure a spot in the tournament.
Their journey will begin on 20 February in Luanda, where they’ll face Angola in the first leg.
But with Zimbabwe lacking a CAF-approved stadium for international matches, the Mighty Warriors will return to their adopted home, Lucas Moripe Stadium in South Africa, to host Angola for the return leg.

Magwizi Pledges To Fulfill 9-Year-Old Promise To Mighty Warriors

Former Dynamos FC striker, Sadney Urikhob, has turned to FIFA after not receiving his signing-on fees and winning bonuses from the club.
Urikhob, who helped DeMbare clinch the Chibuku Super Cup and secure a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup, spent a single season with the team before moving to ambitious Premiership newcomers, Scottland.
The Namibian forward was supposed to be paid US$9,000 in signing-on fees by February of last year. 
However, with no payment in sight, Urikhob had no choice but to inform the club’s leadership, led by Moses Maunganidze, of his decision to involve FIFA.
In line with procedure, Urikhob’s representatives sent three letters to the club, but the cash-strapped Harare giants didn’t respond.
His former manager, Trust Nyambiya, confirmed to <a href="https://www.soccer24.co.zw/2025/02/09/urikhob-takes-dynamos-to-fifa-over-unpaid-signing-on-fees/">Soccer24</a> that Urikhob is still owed both his signing-on fees and winning bonuses. Said Nyambiya:

As far as I know, he ought to have been paid his signing-on fees on February 28 last year. He approached me on November 28, after efforts to be paid hit a brick wall and he told me he was taking the issue to FIFA.

A source close to the situation has revealed that Dynamos has been given a deadline to settle the outstanding payment to the player.
Failure to pay by the deadline could result in serious consequences for the club, including a potential ban from participating in the CAF Confederation Cup or a transfer ban.

Wicknell Chivayo has stepped in to help Highlanders FC pay the outstanding salaries owed to their former coach, Baltemar Brito, and his assistant, Antonio Joao Torres.
Reports say that Highlanders owes Brito US$14,778, plus US$237.71 in interest as of October 17, 2024, and owes Torres US$11,788, with US$193.74 in interest on the same date.
The two Brazilian coaches reported the club to FIFA, which responded by banning Highlanders from signing new players until the debt is paid in full.
FIFA also warned that the debt will keep accumulating interest at a rate of 5% per year until it’s settled.
This issue has been going on since last year after the coaches couldn’t resolve the matter with the club.
Highlanders had hoped to strengthen their team after losing key players, but the ban has made it harder.
Now, Chivayo has offered to help by paying off the debt “tomorrow without fail,” offering a way out for Highlanders. Chivayo wrote on X:

Chivayo, a former convict and controversial businessman, has been involved in several scandals and corruption cases recently, but he has not been arrested.
Chivayo is closely connected to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and leaked audio surfaced last year where Chivayo claimed that the President follows his instructions, saying, “ndakachibata kuti dzvii” (meaning he influences the President).
Through Chivayo, ZANU PF political leaders have been giving cars and cash to celebrities in Zimbabwe.
Chivayo himself has openly said that these gifts come from ZANU PF, and the recipients should be aware of that.

Wicknell Chivayo is offering to help pay Highlanders FC's debt to their former coaches, Brito and Torres. The club owes them a lot of money, and FIFA banned Highlanders from signing new players until the debt is paid. Chivayo is a controversial businessman with connections to the President of Zimbabwe. He has been involved in scandals, but he has not been arrested. Chivayo has offered to pay off the debt to help the team. Chivayo Offers To Pay Highlanders' Debt To Brito And Torres

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has banned Highlanders FC from signing new players both internationally and domestically due to the club’s failure to pay former coach Baltemar Brito his outstanding salaries.
According to <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/fifa-ban-bosso-bulawayo-giants-sanctioned-for-not-paying-brito">Zimpapers Sports Hub</a>, Highlanders owes Brito a total of US$14,778, with an additional US$237.71 in interest as of October 17, 2024.
The club also owes his assistant, Antonio Joao Torres, US$11,788 plus $193.74 in interest, as of the same date.
FIFA has stipulated that the debts will continue to accrue interest at a rate of 5 per cent per annum until the payments are settled.
The dispute has been ongoing since last year after the coaches’ efforts to resolve the issue with Highlanders were unsuccessful.
Following this, the matter was taken to FIFA. The club was given a 45-day deadline to settle the debts, but they failed to meet the deadline, leading to the ban.
Highlanders had been hoping to strengthen their squad after the departures of key players such as Lynoth Chikuhwa, Godfrey Makaruse, Peter Muduhwa, and Marvelous Chigumira.
FIFA formally communicated the ban to Highlanders in a letter from their disciplinary committee, with copies sent to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), ZIFA, and the coaches’ representatives.
On January 29, Americo Espallargas, FIFA’s head of disciplinary, urged ZIFA to enforce the ban, as Highlanders had still not made the required payments to Brito. Wrote Espallargas to Highlanders:

We refer to the above-mentioned matter, as well as the decision passed by FIFA in the matter ref. no. FPSD-16612 (the Decision).
In this context, it appears that despite the decision, Highlanders FC (the respondent) has not yet complied with its financial obligations towards Baltemar Jose de Oliveira Brito.
In this regard, we wish to inform the parties that a ban from registering new players internationally has been implemented by FIFA on the respondent.
The registration ban will remain active until the amount due is paid and for a maximum duration of up to three entire and consecutive registration periods.
Lastly, the Zimbabwe Football Association is requested to immediately implement on the respondent a ban from registering new players at national level, if not done yet. We thank you for your kind attention to the above and for your valuable cooperation.’

Before taking the drastic step through their disciplinary committee, FIFA had issued a warning to Highlanders last year regarding the payment of their coaches. However, the club failed to take timely action to avoid the penalty.
On Saturday, Highlanders CEO Brian Moyo acknowledged the FIFA-imposed ban but said the club was making efforts to settle the debt before the domestic transfer window closes, ahead of the start of the 2025 Castle Lager Premiership season. Moyo said:

Yes, it is true the club owes the foreign coaches. Efforts are underway to remedy the situation as soon as possible in time to not lose out on the transfer window.
We are working round the clock with our partners and in full consultation with the Reserve Bank in order to remain inside of funds transfer (regulations).

Meanwhile, another local Premiership club, Yadah FC, is also under a FIFA-imposed ban from registering players for three transfer windows.
Yadah’s case also involves Brazilian nationals—Joao Pedro Marques Barcellos, Juan Luciano Faria, and Deivid Pereira de Brito.

FIFA has banned Highlanders FC from signing new players because they owe their former coaches over $26,000 in unpaid salaries. Northern Region Soccer League (NRSL) club Chegutu Pirates have appointed Moses Chunga as their new head coach in a bid to secure a swift return to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
This marks the first time in nearly a decade that Chunga, affectionately known as Bambo, will lead a club, as he has primarily focused on managing resources for his academy in recent years.
Chunga is a highly experienced coach, having previously won the PSL title with the now-defunct Gunners.
He has also coached prominent teams including Dynamos, CAPS United, Black Rhinos, and Shooting Stars.
Chegutu Pirates were relegated from the PSL at the end of the 2024 season, after spending just one season in the topflight league.
The club officially confirmed Chunga’s appointment as head coach in a recent statement. It said:

Warriors Vice Captain Marshall Munetsi has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers, with an additional 12-month option.
Wolverhampton reportedly paid £16 million for the transfer, the highest fee ever for a Zimbabwean player. 
Munetsi scored four goals and provided two assists in 19 games during the first half of the season for Stade Reims.
The 28-year-old, capable of playing in various midfield roles, joined Reims in 2019 from Orlando Pirates.
He previously played for Ubuntu Cape Town, Baroka, and Orlando Pirates in South Africa.
Munetsi became a regular starter at Reims and scored 21 goals during his three-and-a-half seasons in Ligue 1, also serving as vice-captain in the 2024/25 season.
Munetsi was the second deadline-day signing for Wolverhampton, following the acquisition of Burkina Faso international Nasser Djiga.
Wolves, although currently not in the relegation zone, are in a precarious position, sitting 17th in the Premier League table.
They recently moved out of the bottom three after a 2-0 win over Aston Villa on February 1st, 2025, putting them two points clear of the relegation zone.

Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has proposed a “private settlement” to appease losing candidates in the contentious Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) presidential election held on 25 January.
Chivayo faces accusations of vote-buying after pledging financial support for newly elected ZIFA president, Nqobile Magwizi.
In a statement on X, Chivayo dismissed the accusations, saying his promise of US$10 million and 78 brand-new vehicles to the 78 ZIFA voting delegates, if Magwizi won, did not amount to vote-buying or violate FIFA’s Code of Ethics.
He described the allegations as “baseless and misleading,” asserting that he is not bound by FIFA’s Code as he holds no official role within ZIFA. Wrote Chivayo:

If the losing candidates are so heartbroken, I’m happy to meet them, apologize, and agree on a gentleman’s private settlement, rather than have them tarnish my precious name over unfounded allegations.
</blockquote>
Twine Phiri and Phillemon Machana, the losing candidates in the ZIFA presidential election, have taken their legal battle to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
They are challenging Magwizi’s victory in the January 25 poll, accusing him of benefiting from third-party interference.
Magwizi won decisively, securing 61 of the 77 votes cast (80%), while Machana and Phiri received six and four votes, respectively. T
he claimants allege undue influence, citing Chivayo’s financial promises and endorsements as compromising the election’s integrity.
In their CAS submission filed on January 29, Phiri and Machana seek the annulment of the results and demand fresh elections within 30 days.
They also want Magwizi barred from contesting, claiming he failed to distance himself from external influences, including Chivayo’s public support.
The petition further accuses Youth Minister Tino Machakaire of endorsing Magwizi before the election, with allegations of one delegate photographing their ballot under duress.
Phiri and Machana argue the election violated ZIFA statutes, which mandate immediate reporting of undue influence to FIFA and CAF.

Businessman Wicknell Chivayo is trying to make peace with the people who lost in the ZIFA election. He is accused of buying votes by promising money and cars if his chosen candidate won. Chivayo says he did nothing wrong and is willing to settle things in private. The losers are not happy and have taken the battle to court. They want the election results canceled and new elections held. They say outside interference influenced the election and violated ZIFA rules. They also accuse the Youth Minister of being involved.

Chivayo Proposes "Private Settlement" To ZIFA Election Losers

The Harare Magistrates Court cleared Bernard Marriot Lusengo, the chairman of Dynamos Football Club (Pvt) Ltd, of charges related to fraudulently acquiring 51% of the club’s shares, reported <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/marriot-wins-dembare-battle/">The Herald</a>.
Lusengo was acquitted of accusations that he corruptly obtained a majority shareholding and allocated shares to individuals who were not original members of the club.
In a ruling delivered on Friday, January 25, Magistrate Yeukai Dzuda said the complainants did not qualify as former players under the club’s 1963 constitution, which the complainants had sought to use as the basis for their case.
Dzuda also said none of the complainants were involved in the club’s formation in 1963. Furthermore, the court found no evidence to prove the amendments Lusengo made to the constitution, granting him ownership rights, were illegal. Said Dzuda:

The State did not tender evidence to prove a charge of fraud against the accused person, therefore he is found not guilty and acquitted.
</blockquote>
The complainants, including former secretary-general Leslie Gwindi and ex-treasurer Eric Mvududu, accused Marriot of illegally seizing control of Dynamos in 2017. They claimed he assumed complete control, disregarding the club’s 1963 constitution.
The complainants, backed by former players and a shadow board led by ex-striker Esau Amisi, also accused Marriot of running the club unlawfully after dismantling the founding constitution.
They sought to have him found guilty of defying a 2005 Supreme Court order by Justice Luke Malaba, which directed Dynamos to return to its original constitution.
According to the 1963 constitution, founding members and early players were entitled to shares in the club. After the deaths of two complainants, David George and Ernest Kamba, the remaining ones were Gwindi, Mvududu, and Zuze.
However, Dzuda ruled that none of the complainants qualified as founding members or former players of Dynamos.
Marriot had argued that the complainants were not entitled to shares, as there was no longer a Board of Trustees.
He also claimed he was the sole surviving member of the club’s 1963 founders and that the 1963 constitution had been repealed at a general assembly meeting.
He added that no one, including the complainants, had challenged the formation of Dynamos Club Private Limited.

In simple words, a man named Bernard Marriot Lusengo was accused of fraudulently taking control of a football club called Dynamos. However, the court said he was not guilty because the people who accused him were not original members of the club. They also could not prove that the changes he made to the club's rules were illegal. The people who accused him wanted him to follow the club's old rules from 1963, but the court said they were not allowed to do that. Marriot said he was the only surviving member from when the club was started and that the old rules no longer applied.

Marriot Triumphs In Battle For Control Of Dynamos

Two candidates from the 25 January 2025 ZIFA presidency elections have challenged the outcome at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland.
Nqobile Magwizi was declared the winner with 61 votes out of 76 ballots. However, Twine Phiri and Philemon Machana claim that third-party influence affected the election, swaying the result in Magwizi’s favor.
Phiri and Machana, represented by Method Ndlovu of Ncube Partners law firm, allege that businessman Wicknell Chivayo promised to buy Magwizi a new Toyota Land Cruiser 2024 edition if he won and also offered US$10 million in funding to ZIFA, contingent on Magwizi’s leadership.
They also claim Chivayo promised to buy a brand new vehicle for each voting councillor if Magwizi won.
The candidates also allege that government minister Tino Machakaire influenced the vote by publicly endorsing Magwizi.
Phiri, the former Premier Soccer League chairman, and Machana, a former ZIFA board member, want the election results nullified and a new election organized.
They are seeking a declaration that third-party influence rendered the election illegitimate.
Machana and Phiri are also calling for a fresh election, with the councillors who voted in the previous election to be barred from voting, as they believe their votes are tainted.
They further request that Magwizi be prohibited from standing as a candidate in the new election.
One of their key arguments is that a councillor was caught attempting to take a picture of their completed ballot to prove to their paymasters that they had followed instructions. They said:

No wonder why one voting delegate was caught taking a photo of his cast ballot while in the voting booth. This was meant to show his handlers how he had voted.
The probabilities are that he and his fellow voting delegates were under pressure to show third parties how they had voted.
That means they did not exercise their right to vote freely. In other words, they did not vote according to their conscience.
