Nicolle Ndiweni is a Zimbabwean-born UK based politician and businesswoman. She became prominent in the media for being the first black cabinet member at Ashfield District Council in the United Kingdom.[1]

Background

Nicolle Sibusiso Ndiweni was born on 5 March 1989. She was born and raised in Karoi, in the Mashonaland West Province of Zimbabwe.[1] She is daughter to Dought Ndiweni, a three-term former chairman of Karoi Town Council.[1] Her mother's name is Thembekile Ndiweni. Some of her siblings include Allan Ndiweni and Arlene Ndiweni.[2] Nicolle claims to have been raised in a strong Christian enviornment.[3]

Education

Nicolle attended Rydings Junior School in Karoi for her primary education. She proceeded to Arundel Senior School in Harare then moved to Hucknall,United Kingdom and would complete her secondary education.[1] She would be appointed as the first head girl, elected to the student council, school council and ethnic minority representative for Conexions. She studied for a Bachelor's degree in Criminology and International Relations at University of Lincoln between 2007 and 2010.[4]

Activism

While she was in university, Nicolle was then elected president of the Afro-Caribbean Society. There, she was involved in various campaigns against racism, gender discrimination, gang violence and gun crime.[1] After College, she worked for Nottingham Women’s Centre heading their membership project which was funded by a Telecoms company Vodafone.[1]

Political career

Nicolle joined the British Labour party. Nicolle Ndiweni was on May 7, 2015 elected as the first black councillor of Hucknall in Ashfield District , UK.[1]

Work and Business Interests

Nicolle owns a boutique which operates as Nicolle's Boutique in Leicester. Nicolle’s Boutique was officially launched in 2014 and currently has sold luxury virgin hair extensions to women all over the world — France, Nigeria, Canada, Swaziland, Greece and Zimbabwe.[1]

Directing a Movie

In 2014, Nicole directed a movie which featured young actors of between 9 to 12-year-olds. The movie production, which was supported by the British government was meant to publicise teenage issues and it featured school children. Nicolle Ndiweni together with Terence Munangi directed and shot all of the scenes, using their expertise in film production to provide a realistic filming experience for the students.[5]
